Default Terrible Gas Mileage

I have read many threads with users who get 21 mpg. I am getting 13. I just bought my 05 crossfire and am wonder what I can do to improve this. The previous owner added an after market exhaust and I am wondering if that may have anything to do with it. Any recommendations?

Highly doubtful, unless perhaps you have a clogged up catalytic converter.
Is yours a SRT6 or a normally aspirated ( NA ) model ?
Have you replace the air cleaners ?
Have you cleaned the MAF/IAT sensor ?
Does the external temperature display correctly ?
For some reason, your AFR ( Air/Fuel Ratio ) is at least half of what it should be.
Normally somewhere around 12:1 ( 12 parts air, 1 part fuel )

Also is it standard or Auto. Automatic gets better gas milage than the standard.

If you just bought it you are probably still driving it like you stole it. I also had very low gas mileage the first several months of ownership.

I've had my Xfire since June 2013 and I'm still getting 21-25 mph in the city...28-32 highway. Please make sure your air filters are clean. And sparkplugs are correct. I have oil changed every 7000-8000k. Never over fill the take. and it is my only vehicle and at the bottom range it's 21mph.

Ditto! My 2005 Roadster consistently gets 25 City and Highway. It's a daily driver. It has never gotten less than 21 no matter how hard I run it.

I get about 450Km to a tank before filling with about 52 Litres. Mainly country (highway use) I dont care about fuel consumption. A reasonable amount of fanging is involved in that tank. Its my when at home daily driver (what you you choose, a 2000 nissan pathfinder?). I really enjoy my crossy and no wonder you lot are so passionate about them.

Aftermarket exhaust could have something to do with it, O2 sensor?

The air filters are located inside of the air filter cover directly on top of the engine.

By pulling up on the rear first, the cover can slip out of the air inlet tubes. Works most of the time. I usually remove the air inlet tubes by compressing the tube simply by pulling it away from the air cover. Once the end comes off the air cover, you can simply pull the inlet tube out and get it out of the way. Then the air cover will come of cleanly by simply pulling it up off of its mounting tabs. Again, by pulling up at the rear, it should come off easily.

I don't understand how the engine gets air with this configuration. the air flows into the tubes from the two inlet tubes to the filters which are both laying in sealed plastic containers. They lay on top of the engine once the cover is replaced but don't see how any air gets to the engine. Please excuse my ignorance

The "containers" are not sealed. On the bottom of the cover (pull it up and out of the engine compartment) you will see several screws. Remove the screws and you will see the filters that are replaced. You will also see a large round hole in the center rear of the cover. That is where the engine vacuum sucks the air after it has passed through the filters.
