New guy on the thread
Hello all,
Looking at buying a Crossfire and think I found one that is a good possibility. I have 3 in my area and of the 3 there is a black 2007 Limited with about 62,000 miles on it. I haven't had a chance to test drive it since the 1 time I went to the dealer it was in the building and I haven't been able to get back for a test drive (hoping this weekend). Back a few decades ago I was part of SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) and used to help with different rally serries and even some racing at Brainerd International Raceway in MN when I was young. I had fun as a teenager and worked in timing and scoring at the track sometimes and watched the old Camel GT series and different vintage races as well. I have long looked at sports cars and looked for something more unique and always liked the Crossfires even with their diminished status compared to some of the competition over the years. I believe this was mainly due to Mercedes involvement but that is a discussion for another time.
There were a few things of concern that I wanted to get some better opinions on. I am pretty handy with a wrench so working on the car is not a concern. When I started the car there was a bit of a moan to the engine. I think this was mainly from sitting and being oil starved or possibly needing a belt replaced although I didn't get a good chance to check the belts and being ion a showroom was extremely limited on the time I could let the car run. I was a little concerned at the ignition of the car as the first time I went to start it I noticed 2 things. First the key feels loose in the ignition. Secondly when I first turned the key the car did not turn over. I was told by the dealer to open and close the door and try again and sure enough the car started but seemed very odd and not something I am normally see or would work on. Any thoughts on the ignition issues. The car needs new tires as the back are almost slicks but otherwise the car looks to be in almost mint condition. The dealer wants jus under $12,000 for the car. I have 2 others to look at and one looks like a definite possibility as it is about the same miles but looks a bit more worn but still in good condition and is cheaper. Both of the other options are about a 2 - 3 hour drive one way to purchase and at least from the photos are not in as good of condition. The one with the ignition issues is only about 45 minutes away and from the visual inspection I did perform is pristine.
I look forward to hearing thoughts and seeing where this journey leads..
