Exclamation Collect Calls from Fontana Dam Lodge

I received my phone bill for the ONE call I made home to check on the kids. I used "1-800/Collect" as I have hundreds of times in the past. Are you ready for this?

3 minutes, $36.54.

And no, I did not call my house in Australia. That would have been $7.

Anyone else have a problem?

I'll be contacting the lodge tonight to see if this is normal.

JHC!

Max,

The Lodge Lobby Pay Phone has 10 min for $1.00, hard to beat at a Hotel/motel/Lodge.
I believe I posted it in the TOD Thread & Said, "Don't use the Room Phones"!

They also Provide a Very Good FREE Hi Speed WiFi, in the Lobby.

Max, I'm sorry you had this problem, but Everyone should know that Room Phones at Any Hotel/Lodge are a Big No No.

Let us know what the Lodge says, or PM me directly, Thank you.

My Best,
Bill

BTW, This was Not the correct place to post this, this is a one post only Area.

OK.

I called the 1-800 provided by AT&T to answer questions about this third party charge.

Talked to a pleasant young lady who informed me that this was the standard charge for "operator assisted" calls.

I told her that I used "1-800-collect" and spoke to no operators and after a short wait told me they would refund ~$33 of the charge.

I figure maybe 10% of folks that get charged persue it and that is ALL PROFIT!

The Lodge claimed they know nothing of this practice.

The call was made from the Lobby Courtesy Phone.

Thanks for askin'
