Default Blue Ridge

Well, it's the end of the F1 season, the final race is about half way over, and to celebrate I'm gonna take a 1st drive in the beautiful blue ridge this fall. If next weekend is as gorgeous as it is today, maybe some of my DC are XF'ers my want to join in. Blade, I know you work on Saturday's so I'm thinking next Sunday...

Let me know guys. I'll give you all the route when I get back.

Well, it started out as a great drive, decided that instead of the blue ridge, I'd head to Wild and Wonderful West Virginia (close enough) and see the new Shenandoah course at Summit Point Raceway. It's been a while since I was there, so I really needed to check out the new addition. Fantastic sunny afternoon, trees not quite a peak here, but the roads were packed so I wasn't the only with this bright idea. I was, however, the only XF around the entire trip. Took the fast route to Charlestown (270 - 40 - 340 - Summit Point Pike). Got to Summit point in about an hour and a half, and hooked up with the Porsche Club race day. The Shenandoah course was super. They did an excellent job and it couldn't be more different than the original course, which is more like a Monza style course - simple lines long straight.
To my surprise, the Shenandoah course even has a banked corner a la Nurburgring Nordschleifer. After I got my fill of burnt tires and exhaust, I headed up toward Shepardstown and back across into Maryland Antietam. Then the rains started..and all us Leaf Watchers limped home in traffic reminiscent of an early friday afternoon around DC.

Just before Shepardstown, I passed this wonderful (and scary) home that was falling a part, but it actually seemed like someone was still living there, I've added a pic of it below. Perfect for this pre Halloween week.

Your pictures bring back a lot of memories, I spent a good part of the last 3 years working in W VA. A lot of the time we were based out of Ranson Charlestown area. Spent a lot of time in Shepardstown and Martin's Ferry. I didn't have the Crossfire yet when I was down there, but I will be taking it down, there would be a lot of nice roads to scout out in it. There is definitely a lot of pretty scenery around there. And like the cool house in the pictures, you never know what you will run across. Can't you just imagine what the place looked like in it's day?
It's 3 am and I can't sleep, snowing outside my window and I'm dreaming of a road trip!! It may be a long winter...

All I can tell you Dave, is that you better hope the "owner" of that house isn't a member of the XF forum, because if he is, "you're in a heap of trouble boy."

LOL.

Yeah, the picture isn't all that clear since I had to use the digital telephoto since I wasn't going anywhere close to that place. I really couldn't tell if some one was still living there...it was a tad spooky.

Pat,

I thought the Burtonsville thing was over for the year? Do they do that throughout the year? Let me know, I'm up for that again.
