I am planning on making reservation at the Bear Mountain Inn for the night of the 14th. It's a six to seven hour drive up there, so. If we are going to do the run on the 14th, we will have to leave here VERY early on the morniing of the 14th. I would go up Friday night, but I can't get out of here until 1900 or later.

I have my goddaughters Confirmation on May 14th so that date is definately out for me. Seems like the 15th is perfect for everyone so let's do it that day. That gives everyone plenty of time to get up here on Saturday and we can meet early Sunday morning.. I know everyone will want time to get home, so the earlier we start, the better. We can stop for lunch at one of the small villages on the way... the real drive itself from Bear Mountain up through the valley and back will take about 1.5-2 hours depending how fast we drive.. but that doesn't include time cruising around Bear Mountain which is a site you should all see anyway or time eating lunch or stopping in a village for a drink, whatever...

I'm also going to print out some maps and hightlight the route and landmarks just in case we get seperated.. Anyway it should be REALLY fun!

As for hotels, Gunner I don't know if you checked already, but last I saw the Bear Mountain Inn is closed for a year, or something like that.. I don't think you can make reservations for May but let me know if you found out otherwise?

Here's a couple good hotels near me.. about a half hour south of Bear Mountain.. These would be some good choices..

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sherat...ropertyID=1177

seems to be about $250 a night for this Sheraton in Weehawken (my town). Great view of NYC skyline from that hotel, I imagine you guys have probably seen nothing like the view from there..

http://www.daysinn.com/DaysInn/contr...y=North+Bergen

The Days Inn is just as close, although the area is less nice, it's only about $80-100 a day.

http://marriott.com/property/propert...rshaCode=EWRSE

This Courtyard by Marriot is in Secaucus, another town less than 5 minutes from me and right on the way. $110-$140 per night

Personally if you have the money, the Sheraton is your best choice because it's the nicest, the view is IMPECCABLE, and theres several EXTREMELY NICE restaurants right nearby. You can also hop on a ferry right next door and for just $5, you can go into NYC in just a few minutes if you desire.. it puts you out just a few blocks from Times Square.

All 3 of these places are right outside NYC on the NJ side.. Since a few of you will be coming up Saturday and staying overnight, we can meet the next day at the Hotel, and then drive up to Bear Mountain where the real fun will begin. Let's see who ends up staying where and we'll figure it out.

I'm in, but the problem is that I don't want to meet-up with you guys in NYC...I live in Orange County...maybe I can tag-along as you pass through this county?

Hey, glad to see your coming. Since your already close, you should just meet us at Bear Mountain. I'll post the exact time later.. Maybe 12 noon? Since you know the area, check the link in the first post and you can read the route we will take.. We are going to kind of ignore the first part before Bear Mountain.. btw for your and everyones info... the link that describes the drive constantly refers to Bear Mountain as "Harriman State Park".. I guess thats its technical name but I've never heard anyone call it that.

BTW I haven't gotten one email from anyone interested in coming. Good thing the site came back online or we wouldn't have any Hudson Valley Bridge Tour at all.
NJSpeed69@hotmail.com or
Bryanfowlkes@hotmail.com

Either of them work.

May 15th is correct. It's actually right around the corner now, 1 month away. Anyone make any reservations or have any updated plans? I think we should aim to start around 11am on the 15th.

Well Aschrager, I really want to hear from whoever else is coming and to what their plans are. We can just go by ourselves if nobody else comes, I'll even come to your house in Fair Lawn and we can drive up together.

Everyone keeps saying they are coming but thus far I haven't gotten any emails and I haven't heard of anyone making a hotel reservation. I posted the best hotels over 20 days ago.

So if anyone here plans on coming, why don't you speak up and tell us what your plan will be. I'm not going to plan this out based on a post someone might have made a month and a half ago saying their coming.. Thats not reliable, so we need an update. Yet I haven't gotten one email, not one person on here has posted to say they made a hotel reservation, or anything. Why doesn't everyone who plans on coming give us some kind of update. Aschrager and I dont have to because we both live 30 minutes from Bear Mountain, where the ride will start.

Yes, I want to know what hotel your staying at by me. If your not staying overnight, please confirm that your still in, and tell me how far from Bear Mountain so I can find an appropriate meet time for everyone who wants to come. We can all meet at the top of Bear Mountain at 1130 but I'm not going to drive up there just to be sitting there by myself.

Anyone can say it sounds good and they are coming... I want to hear from whoevers serious and has actually made plans...

I will be there even if it just the two of us. My house would be fine or some place for breakfast before the drive. PM me or I will call you and make plans.
SEE YOU ON THE 15th.

I hear you.....I think my plan will be to just drive up Sunday morning from CT with my girlfriend. I doubt we'll do a hotel. The highlight of this for us will be to get on the open road and stuff.

PEREZE, how long will it take you to get down from CT?

The problem I'm having with setting up a good meet point is there really is none.. I mean there are places that I know of we could meet at, but it's impossible for me to describe them or to even get them on a map. Since the drive will basically start at Bear Mountain, we could all meet at the top of the mountain where theres plenty of free parking and an awesome view. The drive to the top is called Perkins Memorial Drive, but you cant even mapquest it. However if you mapquest Bear Mountain and then zoom in, you can find Perkins Memorial Drive. Meeting at the top of the mountain would be ideal, but I imagine it would be awfully difficult to find the way unless you already know the route. (especially since it cant be mapquested!)

The best thing I can think of would be to meet on Route 17 somewhere in NJ, right south of the NY border. The mountain is just a few minutes away... Aschrager do you know any landmarks on 17 we could meet at? Golfdude, could you meet us there? And Pereze, You can mapquest the directions from your town to Bear Mountain and it will give you a timeframe estimate.. from there it wouldn't take much longer to get to Route 17.

I think if we can find a landmark on Route 17 and post the address, everyone could just mapquest it and we could all meet there.

1030 or 11am would be ideal for me.. I have my god daughters party in the afternoon so I can't do it too late. That would give us enough time to do the entire drive, and we'd have time to stop in the middle of the ride and take a break for lunch in one of the small villages that dot the route...

15th is a no go for me. A six hour drive up there and do the run, then dinner, and a six hour ride back is just a little too much. 14th would have been perfect. Sorry! Maybe next time.

I can only think of two places to meet.

1. Sheraton Crossroads Hotel
1 International Blvd. , Mahwah, NJ 07495 http://yellowpages.superpages.com/su...on+Crossroads+

2. Sheraton Crossroads Hotel & Towers
State Highway 17, Mahwah, NJ 07430 http://yellowpages.superpages.com/su...e=NJ&zip=07430

The second one is a little more north.

NJSpeed69 pick one. I have not been to either one so I don't know if one is better than the other.

Patty and I are driving there on Saturday and staying over. It's not that far a drive from CT but we thought we'd do the drive Saturday if we find someplace near Bear Mtn that we'd like to stay. I'll post again once we make reservations.
