incredibly painful but VERY impressive.
Isn't this a pretty car?

The 2007 Mercedes Benz E63 AMG. 507 horsepower, 465 lb-ft of torque. Zero to 60 mph in 4 seconds. $85,375 starting price. Picture it in white. A stately, powerful sedan. Pull up in front of any social event and you have arrived. This car is Arnold Schwarzenegger in a three piece suit.
Brand new. Untitled. Less than 100 miles on the car. Think of it blasting a little over 100 mph. Think of the bridge support that steps out in front of the right front headlight. The brakes are good, but they're not that good.
The driver walked away.
The car wasn't so lucky.
It's in the dead lot waiting for the insurance company to do their deed.
The force was so great that the right front tire is missing and the wheel is crushed back under the cowl. The roof bent over the passenger front seat but not as bad as one would think. Both quarters are buckled. The force of the impact traveled through both passenger side doors. They're hammered. The driver's door still opens and closes normally. The vehicle is much shorter than it used to be despite less than 2 feet of the car making contact with the pillar.
The structure around the passenger compartment held up nicely. Notice that the rocker is bent pretty far back and the rear wheel opening is crushed. The A-pillars did bend a little. That's a serious "safety cage" as some makers prefer to call it.
These are pretty tough cars. I haven't seen one with so few miles and so much devastation. It's impressive that the driver made it out with no major injuries.
I was thinking about picking up a 2007 E350 on an employee Master Lease. Seeing how well the passenger compartment held up, I'm a little more inclined to get one. I've had my fair share of accidents before (1 at fault and 4 as victim) but seeing this car made me think twice about the next one.

ouch... i love the e55... white is such a rarity in that car... even more so in the new e63... 95% seem to be black & silver.
my neighbor has the new black e63 ... a sweet ride indeed.

We just finished the lease on an Black E55 and picked up a slate grey E63 about 5 months ago. Going from the torque monster 55 to the high-revving 63 was a big difference. And I do find myself missing the torque, but the 63 motor and the 7 speed tranny work so damn well together that it is a whole hell of a lot more fun to drive. Those pictures remind me yet again why I drive the cars I do. Sad to see such a gorgeous and pretty much new off the lot one get mashed up like that though.
I'm partial to the full size AMG, can't think of the model number right now (I think S600) but its got the same motor as the SL65 AMG convertible. There's something about 738 ft/lbs of torque stock.
You're probably thinking about the full size two door CL 65 coupe or the monster 4 door S 65 sedan. Both of them have the same drivetrain.
Don't confuse them with the 600s. That's a 5.5 liter twin turbo V12 putting out a mere 500 hp. AMG took that motor and tweaked it to over 1,000 ft/lbs of torque but it was hell on the transmission. They backed it down to 738 ft/lbs and gave it a warranty.
