decisions...decisions...
Not that I need another, but these two are so tempting.

They are both excellent choices. I've always had a very strong attraction for the AMX because my dad was a GM for an AMC dealer in ATL when they came out in '68 and he always drove one. Red with the white strip down the center and the 390 and 4 speed. They were so fast and handed great, for the time period anyway. I remember meeting Mark Donahue back then when he was racing the Javelins and then the Matador for NASCAR. I must have been about 11 or 12 then and I remember going to the Atl Speedway to watch the race from one of the sky boxes that AM corporate rented for the local dealers and corp big wigs. I remember Mark Donahue coming up to the sky box after the race and if I remember right he finished 16th.
I remember riding in one with my dad while doing four wheel drifts around some of those on ramps around Atlanta. He use to race stock cars in the 50's, before me, so he knew how to push one very hard and be in control.
Did you know that Alabama use to use Mark Donahue edition javelins for hwy patrol cars?
I think, as others have already agreed, that the Crossfire has a lot of the AMX body lines. If AMC was still around today, the Crossfire could just as easily been the newest AMX.
If I had the extra money and space, I'd find the newest SSP roadster SRT that I could and then try to preserve it with as few miles as possible. This combo seems to be the rarest of all the SRT-6's.
That's just my thoughts.

I fully agree, I think the Crossfire and the AMX are "kindred" spirits, 36 years apart, and their respective "stats" seems to bare this out.
I think the Alabama Highway Patrol cruiser that you were talking about was actually a 1972, 401 Javelin, that had the Javelin AMX rear spoiler that was patterned after the Mark Donahue spoiler.
It is generally recognized as being the first official "Pony Car" ever to be used by any police force.

+Fireamx,
I've got something that I bet you'd like to see. I've got some models from back then of a 68' Javelin, and the 72' AMX. These were the ones that the dealers got, why, I don't remember.. maybe to display to show the new models coming or something. Anyhow, I ended up with them and I also have one of the Chyrsler turbine cars. They only made 4 real ones, and they had one in Atl to run around the speedway for the dealers to have a chance to look it over. My Dad was running a Dodge/chrysler dealer then and of course anything to do with racing or the speedway, he was always involved. He actually drove one of those turbines around the track. They wouldn't let him go more than 75, but I remember him telling me that it was very smooth and quiet but not very quick or fast. Interesting car!
I also got to meet Craig Breedlove at the AMC dealer. He was the world record holder at the time for the land speed record. He was racing for AMC, but I don't recall in what capacity. His wife Linda was the woman's holder for the same record, but much slower. I think he was driving Trans am for them because they had a Trans am racer on display. I had pictures of it, signed by Craig and his wife, but I left them by mistake with my previous and I'm sure once she found them, in the trash they went. It was a real loss because I had lots of autographs from back then.
I'll have to find those models and get you some pics. I also have a mid 60's Rambler convertible.

C'mon Mike you know you want it...go for the AMX...that car looks to be in very nice shape and you would look good with it. Remember those cars from yesteryear (now I am dating myself) and always thought they were a nicely styled car. You need it Mike...go for it.
Well guys, one car is depreciating as we speak, and the other is appreciating.
Like Rick Z said, if the SRT6 was really a 6 spd. who could afford it? One of one, usually means a ton of money at an auction.
If I had my Viper sold, I'd probably be very interested in the SRT, after all, it's only about 25 minutes from my house. After lunch today, I may just drive over and take a look at it.
There is a reason I've never driven a SRT, because I'm very content with the performance from my 04 XF, and I know that just one trip behind the wheel of a SRT6 could change all that.
It would have to be aero blue (my favorite SRT6 color). It's a good thing I'm broke right now.

You know Mike unless you have more willpower than I do, it would be best to stay away from Montrose. I can remember the days of going to Summit for just a few things and being glad I took the pickup by the time I left. Besides just think for only a couple thousand more you could have that Honda SI.

High bid for the SRT6 was $21,500, reserve not met.
High bid for the AMX was $20,800, reserve not met.
I sure do wish I had some extra cash hidden somewhere.
