Default Saw a new Challenger

Stopped by the local dealer today as they just took delivery of a Challenger SRT - in black. My person favorite on this car.

Popped the hood, looked in side, and popped the trunk... I just dont know. Something is wrong.
I really like the look of the car and have always wanted a Chally but... I am waiting this one out.
  1. Same air intake as my Mag SRT before i put on the CAI. No ram air like the concept.
  2. Interior is a big let down compared to the concept...where's the cool engine block gauges?
  3. The cool taillight...also did not make production. Just a simple red lens across the whole back.
  4. The trunk is far too short to carry anything...not that anything would go in there if it was mine, but Dodge is going to make the SXT and R/T that will get more day to day use.
  5. Nose, Lights, and grill look great.
  6. Will be better with the 6 spd and the new rear end in '09
  7. But the real kicker... (and why I will never buy from my old dealer) the new local dealer has the good old "market adjustment" sticker in the window. Car was about 42K + 13KMA so for $55K you can pick up a car that will be selling at employee pricing next year. Looks like I am sticking with the dealer in NC. for my Dodge/Chry purchases.
Regarding point 7. When I wanted the Magnum SRT back when they first came out all the local dealers (within a few 100 miles were commanding over sticker) best I found was 6K over, most were +$10K or more. My local dealer had the nerve to tell me he would order one for me with a $1,000 deposit and when it came in that my deposit would give me the first chance to bid on it...WHAT? Walked out and ordered it from NC for less than sticker. Took delivery in 5 weeks..was the best experience ordering a car...except the 800 or 900 miles to get there.
Beg me to buy cars but when one comes along that I want...try to bend me over on price??? I am done. See ya. There are good dealers you just have to find them. (off soap box, sorry for the rant - I had high hopes for the new owners of the local dealership - apparently it is going to be business as usual).

There were guys on this forum that paid sticker + 10K in July '03 for their Crossfire. By December you could get one for sticker. By the next July the discounts were starting to get serious. Be interesting to see if this price curve tracks with the Challenger.

I personally do not believe it will follow the same pricin trend as the crossfire. The challenger provides a nostalgia factor for many people similar to the effect of the charger and new style mustang. Reminiscient of days of old. I think that while in fact you will see in the next 12-18months the price come to below sticket. I do not think the price will trend donward like the crossfires have over the past 4+ years.

Hey Max ! Why don't you tell us what you really think ?

No doubt the Challenger is aimed at the retiring baby boomer generation. A little glimpse of the past, booty calls in the back seat, haulin a$$ down a lil two lane back road with the 383 belching out tunes through the glass packs, a 4 on the floor and a fifth under the seat....ahhhh the good ole days !

Just my Dos Centavos !

I can see Chrysler spending money to promote the Challenger and also not be embarrassed by it. Other than that I think the Challenger will be about as successful as the Crossfire.

My dealer just took delivery of a black one too...I just wasn't impressed as I thought I would be...I'd buy another vette zo6 or a snake before I'd buy a challenger...should've dropped the price....he isn't jacking the price either...just won't come off sticker...wait till next yr after earlier orders have ran out...I won't say what Max said, but I learned my dealer let the service mgr go that always took good care of me...so MY business will follow him...they are only as good as the leadership...he was the best...

yup, and it's a sales flop!
I love my Crossfire but have absolutly no interest in another 2 door sport car type vehicle. They have no practical use except for speeding and driving like a retard.

I saw on the Dodge website for 2009. They will have a base (SE) model for $21,000. Would anyone buy that car just for the looks??

My friend from Michigan State actually got one, and he's only 19.. it was a nice car.. funny story, a few months later we had a bad storm and a tree fell on it.... go figure it was replaced with an SRT-10 Ram

Your friend wouldn't per chance have worked at Galeana's dodge on Van Dyke road would he? The only reason I ask is because there was a guy there who was helping his kid, who was wearing service tech clothes, get a SRT-10 Ram. I'm still convinced that guy has no idea what a SRT-10 Ram really is.

Now all you guys who are peeking in the windows just to look at the Challenger........you need to DRIVE IT! Believe me.......that thing runs like a raped gazelle.

Saw an orange one at our local beach gathering last Sunday morning. Looked absolutely beautiful until an original lime green Challenger convertible with white top, white interior and bumble bee stripe pulled in. The new one is nice but at 2/3 scale it would be nicer. Its too big for my liking because I'm from the originals generation and I like smaller cars. Thats probably why it will be successful. Look at the size of the Charger (besides it having 4 doors) and the size of the new Mustang. They're nothing like the size of their originals but they're vastly successful. Just like their nostalgic owners and prospective owners (my self included). They're bloated and a bit over weight. The Crossfire can in no way be compared to the Challenger re. potential success. The Challenger will be huge because it is blatantly an American Muscle car that sells to middle America. The Crossfire was not. It aspired to play with the high end sports cars and was terribly marketed by Chrysler. The companies loss, our gain.

I don't know about it being a success, seriously I feel Chrysler is wasteing precious time and manufacturing on this car when they should have a plug in hybrid on showroom floors RIGHT NOW!
