Default Dmc-12

Saw a Delorean DMC-12 the other day in Houston and it got me thinking... how cool would it be to own one of them? I get tons of "WOWs" from my Crossfire... just imagine if I had a Delorean (yes, I am an attention *****).

Looked on Ebay ~25k for one... anyone have any idea where to get one that is less restored that I can do myself on a budget?

Shiraz,

The DMC world headquarters is based out of Humble, TX. It can be seen just off the intersection of 59 and Beltway 8. I used to drive past it everyday to get back to my house.

I would like to own one too. Most folks think they are junk though.

One of my buddies' father-in-law is a certified Delorean tech from 20+ years ago. He still gets them in his shop from time to time. The last one I saw in there was, in his words, 'coming apart at the seams.' From what I gathered, they used a great deal of adhesive to hold panels/pieces together and after a couple of decades, the adhesive is beginning to fail.

There is one that has been sitting in a driveway for 2 years about 10 miles away from me. I've been debating on knocking on the door to inquire. The wife would not be happy if she came home and there was a stainless, gullwinged car in the garage.

You can get one new for around $60,000...

I can't believe they will build you one now, and they have CPO ones too.

I have one that I bought new in 1982. It sits next to my XFire. I have almost 100,00 miles on it and have driven it in almost every state and most of Canada. With proper maintenance they can be reliable. I've installed Eibach springs and custom shocks along with 17' AND 18' wheels. One problem with them is the stock wheels were 14' in front and 15' in the rear. It's almost impossible to get a matching set of performance tires in those sizes. Lotus did the engineering for the chassis and it's very close to the Lotus Esprit in that regard except it's a rear engine instead of mid-engine. The car has become a cult car with quite a large following world wide. Do a search of the web and you'll find several sites similar to this XFire site. The $25,000 is kind of a rule of thumb being whether you buy a nice one for that or try to fix up a bad one you'll spend that much or more.
