Default Cool Chevy at local car show

'64 Chevy Cheetah,
I know it isn't a "real" one but it is the first one I have ever seen in person. From what I have read it was supposed to compete with the Cobras, but never quite worked out. Anyway I thought it was Cool

What makes it an un-real version. Weren't they basically nothing more than a "kit car" to begin with? I can honestly say I've never seen one in the flesh, but lots of them in magzines great find.

Here is a web page devoted to the Cheetah;

History

I remember seeing one racing in the USRRC (later CanAm) race at Mid-Ohio the year Mark Donahue won in a Lola T-70 (1967?).

They were amazingly close to the size and proportions of a Crossfire but the fuel tank behind the rear axle would never be allowed today.

Well I guess that explains why I've never seen one in person.
I remember the first time I saw a photo of one in Hot Rod or Motor Trend back in the early 60's, but I must not have read the article. I did think it was pretty radical looking though.
Using today's standards (with no drive shaft) wouldn't that be considered a "mid-engine" car?
After reading the history, it sounds like it was "cursed" from the get-go.
Some may say that's another "Crossfire" similarity.
