Default 2005 Pontiac Solstice

A major publication (Business Week) has published that the Pontiac Solstice will be put in to production. The car will cost around 20K and debut in 2005.

" Pontiac made big news at the 2002 Detroit Auto Show with the Solstice, a coupe and roadster sharing a name and a slinky two-door shape. Since then GM has teased the press with hints that the Solstice might become a reality some day. Now,Business Week magazine reports that the Solstice will be built. The vehicle, which would be priced at about $20,000, will be constructed on a hydroformed subframe and could share its new chassis with vehicles from Buick and Saturn. The Solstices could hit showrooms by 2005, the report says. "

This is from an Edmunds.com e-mail I got.

Any pix of the car?

Looks like Pontiac is trying to make some noise. I'm looking forward to seeing a GTO in the flesh. The pix I've seen of the Holden look like a pretty plain car, but 400 hp in a sleeper body for $35K is at least a little intriguing.

It's interesting that Autoweek hasn't yet picked up on this story. Maybe they're waiting to confirm it before publishing or something. Their latest story on the Solstice was about a month ago. It indicated that GM appeared to still be intending to move ahead with the platform on which the Solstice is based, despite Opel deciding to pull out and not use it.

I wonder if GM is actually starting to get their styling act together. The Solstice is very attractive, as was the Cadillac Cien supercar concept which was introduced at the same show as the Solstice, but which has officially been marked as non-production, at least until economic circumstances change.

Now if only GM could fix that undefinable something I've never been able to put my finger on which has caused me to hate every GM car I've ever driven. Well, except for my old Saturn. Too bad the newer Saturns have it, whatever it is...

Cheers,

Greg

I'll be amazed if GM goes into production on this. Not that I would want one. I quit being a fan of GM products (except the Vette) in the early 90s.

Production of the solstice has been pretty much confirmed... I have seen spy shots of it looking pretty much like the concept. I think it will be a nice little roadster. Not a big fan of GM for the past 10 years, but now it looks like they are on the right track... the C6 corvette looks really nice and the Z06 version will have 500+ hp. The GTO is undeniably an awesome car, and the Judge version will come out next year (my dad has a perfect 66 GTO convertible..., and I actually got more thumbs up/honking when I drove that around than I do in the Crossfire :? , and the solstice convertible will be a nice little roadster I think.

I don't think it's that ugly... not as good looking as a Crossfire though. You have to realize this car is supposed to cost under $20k. I don't know of any other cars under $20k that even look one 10th as good as the Solstice.

Corvettes are in a league of their own. I don't lump them with the rest of the GM junk.

Thats funny, looks like they copied off of our Chrysler Pronto design.

Supposed to have the new 2.4 ltr turbo SRT4 motor.

Priced around 20k.

Take a look:
