Saw one today.
Too bad he was going the other direction I'd love to get a kill on one of these!

I saw a nice looking red one yesterday,

To bad the driver had the entire lower front scraped onto the side walk.

Sad to see a nice car treated that way.

 

I doubt the SRT guys have a worry. I know tuners figure ways around them but, the car is full of limiters.
13.3 stock at 4400 lbs I'm thinkin' a good upgrade on an NA and it would give a fair challenge. Assuming the XFire driver knew what he/she was doing. Especialy on thestreet where most contests are for much less than the full quarter mile.

These Camaros are too heavy and the clutches too weird. Without serious mods software and hardware, it will be a while before they give and SRT serious challenge.

Just my opine onion.

There are three in my small town. One is a beautiful black SS with silver strips with tinted windows. Nobody wants to play but I don't blame them. The town has 12,000 people and it seems 9500 are police officers

 

somehow, I understand that...my neighbor has a new black one, he will try me some day....I just know he will....

I've seen 6 of them in various versions cruising around. The local Chevy dealer has sold 4 of them. Can't say if they're actually local or just driving through town but they're getting almost as common as Mustangs!

 

For those who seriously want to compare, my sister-in-law, Connie, will be bringing her 400HP 2009 Camaro 6 spd to the Texas Motor speedway event.
My brother Jeff says he doesn't street race. Well, this is his wife's car and we won't be onthe street.


We'll see.

one of my employees bought a red SS, i am going to try to talk her into racing me lol. her and her husband think it is the fastest car on earth. i wonder if they will be happy with the results of the race

Last quote I heard was 12.9 in the 1/4 mile. Makes sense. Last Camaro was 13.5 with 305hp/3400 lbs, this new one is 400+hp/3800lbs.

 

look at it like this - an SVT Lighting will run into the 13s stock with less power, probably less traction and a whole lot heavier... unless Chevy messed up the gearing on the new 'Maro v.low 13s dipping into the 12s wouldn't sound outrageous

 

mine is a 3800 lb car...that boat has to weigh more than that....I'm looking at one across the street as I type...sure looks heavy to me...

 

330 HP stock to 33000 lbs against 3800 lbs at 426 HP. Sounds like the Camaro wins by the numbers but I drove both, one behind the other. I don't see it as a 12.9 car from the factory, especialy with the stick shift. Camaro is a truck by comparison.

However, aftermarket Turbos by Ultimate Performance (T04Z) claim 600 HP
also Vortech super Chargers claim 660 HP.

The 6.2 liter L99 with eight jugs just has more developable potential.

Stock to stock, the Camaro loses but the tuners will get them out and away faster very soon.

 

right on Franc...I'm seeing big #'s coming out of the Mustang GT 500, which I am keeping my eyes on...they are claiming 700 hp...I stopped by a Ford Dealer in Clinton IL...they have a Dan Gurney addition, Roush, and a P51 version, only 51 made...as an old Camaro fanatic, just not seeing it in this car...never owned a Ford, but next yr, I just may own my first...and it will come from Clinton IL...Anderson Ford...they got their.....together...OH, just about forget, Ford is producing a factory race Mustang as well, stripped and track ready...forget the price, but it was up there...LOL
