My friend's 135i
I'm REALLY impressed with the new BMW 135i. It's simply an amazing car.
While I was back in Dallas 2 weeks ago, I stopped by my friend's house because he just HAD to show me his new car.
Hes driving a black 135i, brand new for $42k. The first thing he did was put in a new intake, new headers, and have the ECU tuned.
We were "driving" around on the highways (more like flying, I'm surprised we weren't airborn) when we come up to a Porsche Carrera S ($87, 385 hp) on highway 114. We pulled up next to him, he looked at us, then my friend floors it. The porsche was WAY back in the distance when my friend slowed down. He hadn't tried to race us at first, but then the porsche comes flying up out of nowhere and starts tailgating us hard. My friend floors it again, and the porsche tries to give chase. It failed. Horribly. We both started around 70mph, when my friend let off the accelerator (around 130 or 140), the porsche was 200 feet back. The porsche driver pulls up next to us, his passenger gave us a thumbs up and a massive grin, while the driver gave us the single finger salute.
We went to a back road to use this iPod app called pocket dyno. It's a free app that uses the built-in accelerometers for the iphone to calculate 0-60 times, and then horsepower (once you enter the car's weight). Supposedly it's been shown to be very accurate. It told him he was putting down 400 whp. People who run the same mods as he does on the bmw forum he's a member of show ~400 horsepower at the wheels and ~440 at the crank, so 400 was pretty close to what he was expecting.
Anyway, it was one of the greatest moments ever, racing that porsche, and I wasn't even driving.
I'm just blown away by the 135i's capabilities. Supposedly it's faster than the new M3 (seems like a mistake on BMW's part, but whatever).
Does any1 else here have any other experiences with the new 1 series that they'd like to share?
