I took a girl too. Took her in my 1960 348 tripower Chevy convertible,WITH A STICK.

MARRIED HER A YEAR LATER.

I took a girl and a limo. Nothing overly fancy. Went with a bunch of people then proceeded to spend the weekend at a beach house.
It was then because of our high school class that almost every parent of younger kids boycotted their kids going to after prom in Galveston. I consider that a victory.
I took my good friends girl friend to prom (its a long story) and we drove there in a Chrysler LHS looks the same as this photo
'70 Olds Toronado W34. Got there fast! and in complete comfort.

God, I miss that car. Don't miss the girl, though. Married her!
Hey, Franc! 1969? Man are you old!

Indeed, Doc, that's where the dance was held - & you had better believe I would've rented a room if I was reasonably assured of post prom highlights but, alas, that required a bedroom at a friends house the next morning. Less class, the same amount of fun.
......sigh - youth is soooo wasted on the young.....
Nope, no Safe House that night. BTW, that place is still around & hasn't changed one bit.

I went to 2 junior & 2 senior proms back in '71 & 72', with the same gal that I'm married to today. Of course took her in a red '65 Chevy Impala & blue '67 Chevy Nova SS...
I took one of my favorites; a two-tone 1953 Ford hardtop w/tuck and roll interior; salmon colored bottom and white top. It was a beauty and purred like a kitten, just like the girl.
The dance was two blocks away and I did not have a car in 1963, so we walked.
My self -Lynda and my son Mike in 1974

The good part was we had more time together - long story short She married me and we are still together 47 years latter.
My self and Lynda in India 2009

And that is a nice story in my mind.
