2011 Grand Cherokee
I am not really in the SUV market at the moment, and due to my Jeep bias to begin with (my dad ONLY buys Jeeps and in fact owns 2 199? JGC) it would be my first and only choice anyway...full disclosure done with, I like the new Jeep GC quite a bit.

The only issue is that it is wider and as the article points out will it still be able to traverse the Rubicon? Does it really matter?

just turned in my '07 off lease...looking for a "beater" jeep now...but, if I were to get another (more than 30 jeeps owned), it would be the new JGC....it is their best so far....
Having spent the better part of 70 hours a week for the past 3 months overseeing the WD/WK platform launch at Jefferson North Assembly plant, I'd have to say the 2011 Jeep is definitely the best Jeep yet.
This is the first vehicle launch I've ever worked where they actually expect ZERO weld defects EVER! Most OEM's have a small percentage that they allow to be "discretionary". Not really a big deal when you're talking about thousands of welds, but still a large feat.
The only thing I really don't like is the battery placement.

I remember driving my dads Jeeps (with my father as a passenger perhaps having more fun than I) up into Laurel Mountain State Park during nighttime snow storms for fun, right about the time I got my license. Ah, yes, I would like to get my hand on a new one and try that out. Probably wouldn't take much convincing to get my passenger back either.
I think you have my father beat in total Jeeps owned though, oledoc.

We just picked up our 2011 Jeep from Chicago, it's sitting right outside the doors at my dealership. Let me tell you this thing is AWESOME, the body looks better than ever. The interior was completely re-done with a sweeping center console area and 'sporty' gauge cluster.
The only thing I'm dissappointed with is the hype surrounding the new air-ride suspension and adjustable ride heights doesn't seem to be all it's cracked up to be, at least not to me. They said the truck was supposed to have just over 5 inches of suspension travel but I barely see it budge maybe a 1/4 inch when I was standing outside the truck looking at the wheel well..
That being said if you have a dealership near you that has one go look at it and take it for a spin, I'm more than positive that you'll be pleasantly surprised with how it rides and drives.
Sorry if I sound too much like a salesman, just wanted to give my honest opinion.

All these "new" Jeeps... I read somewhere that the new Wranglers are supposed to come with portal axles. As if new Jeeps aren't pricey enough... I think the only use for ZJ/WJ/WK on the trail are for hauling people and stuff, not the trails themselves, because of their bulk.

6.4 is rumored to be put in the SRT Challenger soon too. (My fingers are crossed.)
I really love the look of the new GCs but I am really disappointed that there won't be a GC SRT8 for now. I really love the SRT8 GCs and have contemplated getting one as my daily driver instead of the SRT6 (no worries I wouldn't be getting rid of the SRT6)... I would look at getting a 2011, but alas no SRT8 GC. So I guess I will have to go with an older SRT8 GC...man I hope they bring back the SRT8GC in the new body style because it would look pretty amazing if my imagination starts running around a bit.
Here is the information available on an SRT8 version, which would be one hell of a machine if they produced it.

...so then I told him he was a fool for speaking to me that way, and that I probably know more about the Chrysler lineup than he does and I'd like to speak with a new sales associate. He wasn't too pleased about that, but I didn't care. The next guy was much nicer. I don't deal well with salesman bullsh*t.
Best line in the article is when the SRT8GC is referred to as the "...weapons-grade SRT model,..."
It would also be nice if a new version of the SRT8GC had hauling capabilities as the previous did not have anything decent, which sucks for nice summer boat hauling.

Sounds like someone heard me whining and released some new SRT8 GC spy shots...

Um, Heck. Yes.

Looks like they were listening to you about the hauling utility of the vehicle as well.
If I only had an infinite amount of cash so that I could buy every vehicle that I wanted.

I have had GC's forever and the 2011 looks fantastic.Just not in the market myself right now to grab one.I did try to talk the wife into getting rid of the roadster and buying a used srt8 GC but she said no way
I had thought about a GC to replace the SRT6 as the daily driver...but then, it happened...
They have spotted a 2012 SRT8 GC...now I think I am going to have to wait.
