FP, that was almost my first car when I was 16, only it was a black 58 with a red interior, silver cove, and 283-3 spd.
Some guy was going to trade his Vette in on a newer car at the dealership my Dad managed.
He was going to give the Vettes owner $850.00 as a trade in on a 66 Dodge Charger.
My Dad came home on Friday and told me all about it, and the guy was going to come back on Monday to finalize the deal.
Longest weekend ever for me, that's for sure.
Well the guy came back on Monday and said that after thinking it over, he decided to keep his Vette since it wasn't worth any more than $850.00.
Needless to say, I was more than a little disappointed.
FP I'd hate to see ya get rid of your Crossfire, but it looks like you're assembling a nice little collection of some highly desirable cars, so good luck with your plans.

Thanks Mike. This has been my favorite Vette. I'm hoping it works out. Can you imagine getting a Vette of this vintage for $850?

But... FP... why REPLACE the XF? Why not have both?
(I know you probably have only so much garage space...)

Yes, it comes down to space for toys.

Serious downgrade in my opinion. I know i'll be shunned for saying it, but it is my opinion after all.
Sure the motor is bigger but pretty close to the same power output. Half the gears. Poor brakes at best. Floppy chassis that is only good at cruising slowly and sitting at cars shows. Suspension isnt any better.
Wouldnt even consider it, no matter the 'value' difference.

Shunned ????
No, I agree with you 100%. My brother-in-law collects these things and once had a '58 that I drove. Worst car I have ever seen, handling was poor, comfort was poor, power was poor, tranny was atrocious and getting in / out - fuggetaboutit !!!!!

I had a '60 for maybe 6 months... an older guy came along at the burger joint one night and made me an offer I couldn't refuse....I bought the ,73vette with what he paid me for the '60...pollution packer it was, the '73, so I traded it later after I was rear ended in -20 degree weather for '74 only to realize it was even more of a pollution packer... so it went by later on for a '75 L48...it wasn't as bad and a 4 yanker... after several no vette yrs I bought an '03 ZO6 .... Vettes are amazing FP, you either love them or hate them...things are always wrong with them....not he Z but all the others....especially electrical.....good luck...can't wait to see it when I'm up that way....what's the latest and greatest price for yours?

Doc, I haven't put it up for sale yet, but I plan to ask for $15,500.

No shunning necessary. You make some good points. It's hard to compare today's performance with yester-year. This has nothing to do with performance. Just want this beautiful American Classic. I don't plan to take it to the track.

That's cool FP, been working on son #1... but he thinks owning 2 cars isn't for him....we shall see. He never hesitates to drive my roadster to the car shows...lol... Good luck... If could sell both mine right now for anywhere near what I have in them, I would.... ZL-1 is calling my name since I can't quite reach the ZR-1 level....lol
