Can I turn my N/A wing into an air brake?
I think I'm in love with the McLaren MP4-12C. Top Gear USA did a review of it and pitted the McLaren against a Nascar stock car.. pretty entertaining to watch... (its at the end of this episode Top Gear — Top Gear: Taxis — History.com Videos)
The McLaren has some active aerodynamics for added downforce, and I can appreciate a speed activated wing, not unlike the wing on my N/A! Okay, pretty unlike my Crossfire... a lot more to it... but I did laugh to myself at the thought of an air brake on the Crossfire.. obviously I won't be reaching 200+mph but I can't imagine the joy of watching that thing fly up when I hit the brakes... hell, I smile evey time I hit 60 and here the little motor going in back of me.
So I'm not serious about actually making an air brake... unless someone else wants to build me one? I was just reminded about my joy at watching the MP4-12C last night when reading about the new P1 that McLaren is working on that will also have some pretty crazy aerodynamic aids...
Enjoy

I considered doing it on the srt, believed it was doable, dont drive fast enough to make a real gain, lots of tech work to do it.
It would freak the ricers a bunch but like the funny doors, it does not seem practable as a mod.
Having the third tail light leds inside my wing was my fall back innovation. W

Two questions;
1)Exactly how fast wold one need to be traveling for this to be effective?
2) Since the spoiler keeps the rear wheels down atspeeds over 115 MPH what would happen if suddenly one were to eliminate that down force and add a lift force?
Scary Scary
I think 0ne hundred Eighty might have some useful thoughts on this.

The McLaren uses that air brake even at lower speeds to reduce the diving of the front end and is apparently very effective (I think I remember them saying dive is reduced by 30%).. Obviously our aerodynamics and wings are way different but still a fun thought
