Chrysler Firepower
There is ABSOLUTELY no way that a Chrysler branded car with an automatic transmission would ever be considered by DCX as a Viper replacement. They have a lot of loyal Viper owners who keep buying Vipers, and now SRT-10 Rams. Don't expect the Viper to be killed off anytime soon.
The reason the Firepower makes sense, as others have said, is that the platform (Viper) and powertrain (300C/Magnum SRT-8) have already been developed. Also, there is probably room at the Viper plant to produce them, they can handle 3 models there, they used to make the GTS, RT-10, and Prowler simultaneously. As long as people respond well to it, which they seem to have already, this car makes sense. It has sounded like the Crossfire didn't have too long to live for a while, and this is a logical next step. I hope they build the Firepower, it's beautiful and after driving a Magnum RT for a weekend, I can't wait to get behind the wheel of something with a 6.1L HEMI.

My husband and daughter were at the Detroit Auto show today and saw the Firepower. He says it's a lot bigger than the XF, it's bigger than a Vette. I guess it would have to be if it has a 6.1 L V-8 Hemi in it. I think the interior is pretty cool looking, except the shifter looks kind-of close to the center column of the dash board. I noticed on this picture that the 2 heat vents in the middle have temp. no's on them, the left one 72 and the right 68. I wonder if they are adjustable at each vent? And the largest guage in the center is the tac, not the speedometer. That's different.
I'm going back to the show with chaser later this week, so I can see it for myself.
Oh, and he said they have it priced at $50k

Dan, How's that mud slide doing? Has it moved any more? How close are you to there? Did you go see it?
It looks like it's not far from production, but they aren't taking orders yet!

I live about 15 miles south of La Cochita,I useto drive to Santa Barbara alot but not anymore, the whole FWY was closed for a week.I don't understand why those people didn't HEED the warnings ! One Person lost 3 kids and his wife !Very sad .
Just read (www.thecarconnection.com) that it's 80% likely to be produced and will cost around $40k+. I'd upgrade in a heartbeat.

I just picked up latest issue of Car and Driver and they have feature articles on both the FirePower and the new Z06 Corvette.
The Vette has the new 7.0 litre motor (500h.p.) 1/4 mile approx. 11.7 secs. 127mph
Top Speed likely above 190mph.
The FirePower 6.1 litre Hemi is 425h.p. 1/4 mile approx. 12.8 secs. 112mph
Top Speed not rated The FirePower is about 250lbs heavier at 3400lbs.
