I will try these ideas thanks. Only car that I've ever had that takes oil in the carb.
Ha! - yes, the dashpots. You need the correct grade of oil and keep them at the correct level.
These are great cars buddy. In fact, just up the road from me is a company that has specialised in rebuilding / renovating these for as long as I can remember - and they are still there.
I used to mess with the Mk111 Spitfires as a hobby - they are great fun as well.
Parts are cheap and easy to get over here.
Your B has a carbon bearing in the clutch, so you have to start it out of gear with your foot OFF the clutch to avoid slow startup. This was learned after one too many push starts. Have fun. Will your wife have her own keys or will she use yours?
Seriously? I never heard that before, I will give a try the next time I get it out of the storage locker when she is at work. Thanks!
It may just have old gas from sitting so much and some varnish in the bowl and jets. Sounds like it was a garage queen if that is actual mileage. The first thing I would do is drain the tank and fill with fresh gas and then take it on a long drive. I would also run it in the dark and look for any arcing in the wiring. Beautiful car, I had a couple of MGAs and loved them. My 1961 even still had the hand crank for the engine. Yes, 1961!!!
My friend and I picked it up in Seymor Ind about 115 miles from me, It got some fresh gas and some interstate time right out of the gate. What oil did you use weight wise? The MGB forums are saying most use 20w50. The guy I got it from said the mechanic he took it to said to only use 5w30 dino oil only.
Congrats , Happy wife happy life ...That is very nice, the best looking US bumper version ive seen, Great color combo and nice looking wheels too .
Hows she go ?
After I filled the carb dashpot up and turned the idle up a little it drives very nice

Mine has the zenith-Stromberg 175 cd2 from what I've been reading is a attempt to deal with US emissions rules. I've been reading that it chokes the HP down to 63 from about 90 in Europe.
Well, in September my wife had a huge retirement party for me after 33 years on the Fire Department. I turned it around on her and had the MGB sitting outside the venue with a fore sale sign on it. off course she went out and looked at it and was saying how it was the perfect color etc that she always wanted. I said it looks best from the rear and that is when she saw the license plate that had her name on it. Surprise! Well a week after that I was running it in the garage checking the lights etc when smoke poured our of the dash area. It took quick work with a CO2 extinguisher and undoing the battery to save it. The headlight switch caused it and toasted the main harness and the under dash wires but my son in law and I managed to save the main car with out any body damage. If I would have been inside the house for any reason for a couple of minutes it would have been real bad. It was nothing $2500 and all new wiring harnesses wouldn't fix. Plus now the headlight circuit has a fuse and a relay on it, something NG hadn't done from the factory. Another bonus: the head lights are actually bright now.
Nice B by the way, here's a cure for the 63 HP if your brave................3.4 litre GM V6.....
I'm from the UK originally, so am totally familiar with their strange ways when building cars.
Looks like you dodged a bullet with the wiring......... The MG Experience (forum) is you friend for all things related to the B, it's a font of knowledge
I have since put a new stereo, interior light and shifter boot on it. Now it could use a new top and carpet, and starter. But ill wait to see if she wants to keep it, the last time she drove it she could hardly get out of it with her bad knees. With her recent surgery maybe that is cured.
