Chevy shows Camaro concept in Detroit

...The shape is well intentioned, but it just doesn't do it for me. Part of me thinks that had the concept been a different color, and if the shape was toned down a little, I might like it. I don't know.
The first gen Camaro wasn't aggressively proportioned, it was well proportioned. In fact, look at a late sixties camaro, and you will see many aspects of the design which are in fact delicate and understated. The A-pillars were thin, as were the bumpers, lines were soft, and nothing much was exaggerated.
This retro redo looks like a caricature of the original. It's almost as if Chevy was so desperate to do a good Camaro, they did it to death. Too brutal for my tastes. Despite four decades of technological improvements, Chevrolet cannot out do the original for pure beauty.

I think this CAMARO looks O.K.! Just too much MUSTANG. I see this has 22" rear wheels. Do ya think they'll include a spare tire? (Sorry, never mind). How about that MINI COOPER? ...Stop laughing!

the fronts are 21" and the rears are 22", according to the article ... don't expect them to reach production though --

Huge wheels are a passing fad. For one, they are getting to the point where they are too heavy, too tasteless, and too frivolous to really appeal to people who crave performance cars. Remember those 13-inch gold plated wire wheels adorning gaudy metal flake Caddys on MTV a decade ago? Those cost a lot of money too, I'll bet, and never ran the risk of being considered tasteful.
People who buy this lighter, more true to the original Camaro (IMO) don't want to look like they live in a rap video. But, they might want low unsprung weight, a communicative sidewall that lets them know how much grip is left before suddenly breaking free, and perhaps some remainder of decent ride quality (much of which would already no doubt be compromised the proper way - in the form of performance springs!) Chevy needs to decide if they are building a "bling" car for pimps, or a muscle car for those of us who get misty eyed when we hear words like "Cragar", "Halibrand", "Weld", and "Centerline". Nothing is more fitting on a muscle car, than a great set of "mags". There are countless examples of great sixties and early seventies iron that proves this. Even the very recent (last generation) Mustang Bullitt proves this. 17-18" is enough.

Wow. It looks a lot better in those pics. Looks really heavy, though. Corvette engine in a Camaro makes it sound like lots of fun. Betcha they'll be all over - just like the new Mustang. Kinda screws up the fun of having a new car.
The chopped top look is very familiar...where do I know that look from? Oh yeah out in the garage, my Crossfire. I had a Z28 Camaro, 69 and a half 350-360. It was the fastest car I've ever owned, no need to revisit that again.

...pictures of the Camaro concept do not do it justice. It's stunning in person, as I observed yesterday at the auto show. In fact, I actually liked it better than the Challenger in person. This is in stark contrast to my earlier opinion of both cars, which was based on photos in the paper, on the web, and in magazines. I guess it goes to show, that seeing things with your own two eyes is invaluable in forming an opinion.
