Default If you own a Windstar...

get to your dealer right away if you have a recall. A friend 'had' one until he took it in for the recall. They would not allow him to drive it back home. They put him in a rental, then put his Windstar in the back row with dozens others. Ford is in the process of buying it back, and at a fair price. As you drive past a Ford Dealer, look for the storage lot of Windstars. Nothing in the newspaper about the buy back...

Some folks have had the rear axle break already.
Apparently the rear axle is three pieces welded together, The welds in question are about eighteen inches from the ends.
I own a 2001, it passed the inspection.

Anyone looking for a used windstar?

Why would anyone buy a Ford winstar minivan when Chrysler makes the absolute best minivans in the world? Just saying. =)

We owned a '95 Windstar. It was one of the reasons we will NEVER own another Ford product.

3 engines
4 head jobs.
2 years.

Stranded in S. Dakota for 3 days with 2 kids and a dog. No help with the hotel, not even a phone call to find us a room.

It's a bloody good thing they have a loyal customer base.

I'm a Ford guy. My 97 Ranger is the best vehicle I've ever owned, HANDS DOWN! Made right here in St. Paul.

Had 2 chrysler minivans, 1st had over 200,000 trouble free miles Then i sold it for my latest Voyager that now had over 160,000 trouble free miles. If it ever dies i'll be purchasing a newer Chrysler minivan.

BTW, they both hauled heavy equipment (500- 1000 lbs) every time & every mile I drove them. =)

For a second I thought 4 of something else, which made me want to go out and by one, not to drive of course.

Growing up we had a 1995 windstar that my mom purchased new. It was the biggest piece of crap. Over a 9 year period we had 2 transmissions put in and I dont remember how many times we had it in the shop but I do remember going to school in a couple of rental cars instead of the van. After it was all said and done we barely got 130,000 miles out of it before the engine developed a serious knock. Sold it for $500.

The company I use to work for had a fleet of Chrysler Mini Vans (I think they were 1993 models) 4 cyl. automatics.
I use to drive one from Akron Oh. to Pittsburg PA. everyday (4 hour round trip) and it had over 350k miles on it with no major mechanical issues.
They would change the oil and filter on them religiously every 3k miles.
The company started getting real "cheap" and started changing oil every 7500 miles just before I quit. I noticed a couple months later they wound up purchasing a brand new fleet of Vans.

Maybe they already knew they were getting a new fleet and decided to save the oil change money. Why waste money on a van going to the crusher.
