Default Luxury SUV or large sedan for $50k??

My father is looking for a new car. He is willing to spend around 50k. I want him to get a
300C SRT-8. But he doesn't like them. Anyways. I have been looking at a few models. As far as sedans Go I think the Infiniti M45 is an awesome. The Lexus GS300 comes in close second. BMW's are cool but way overpriced for a V8 model, their 6's suck. We were also looking at the Acura RL. Now for the SUV's. Lincoln Aviator, Porsche Cayenne (no not the turbo S!! the base v6), Benz ML350, Lexus GX 470, Infiniti QX56 & FX 45, Volvo XC90. personally I like the XC90 and the Aviator. What do you guys think? Are there any other vehicles you would recommend? My father is a big man 6'4. So he needs large sedans or suv's.

a 5 series BMW. Sex on wheels.

you have a big wrong about saying BMWs 6s suck. They are some of the smoothest and best in the business.

i personally don't like SUVs but the X5 is a rather nice SUV.

Go with the sedan...you get more for your money compared to an SUV, IMO. Unless you really need the cargo room and 4WD.

You mention the GS300, but only the V8 BMW? Why? Go for a 530i. Such a great balance between luxury and handling. The Infiniti M45 was a hot product this year, it's a great car too.

...If I had 50K to drop on a sedan, that would open a lot of doors. I second the opinion on the BMW 5-series. Not really big, but worth every penny. Also, I would consider the new Caddy STS. With the Northstar, four wheel independent suspension that was tuned on the 'ring and rwd, it's supposed to be a fine drive. Lincoln LS is often overlooked, too. It's better than a lot of people give it credit for, and in its final year, I am sure you could work a heck of a deal on a loaded one. A loaded Acura TL would be tempting, and again, you would have money to spare. Acura RL fits the bill, too. An Audi A6 would be tempting, as would a Mercedes C or E class. There are so many good choices, (and a lot of them fun to drive) but ultimately it's all going to boil down to which one he likes the best during the test drives.

$50k, I'd look to get an m3. But you can always get a little more if you find a slightly used model, or a new car from the previous year. Example: buy a new 05 when there are very few left and all the 06's are out. Only problem is sometimes you have less choices. But rebates and incentives are huge. What about the charger srt? and have some extra money to take a nice vacation. Or a cts/sts v series? As far as suv's im not a fan of them. I don't need cargo room and if i wanted all wheel I'd get a g35x. luxury, and performance. But yeah, why not a bmw? their 6's are far from garbage.

well why not go for performance and utility, check out the srt8 jeep or the ss trailblazer. both are around 40k, have many nice options, awd, and 400 hp. but your dad my rather care about the name on the car rather than what's under the hood, then if so these are bad options, and i say used porsche or x5.

Oops, my bad. I guess i got so caught up in the fact that he said that bmw 6's suck. The m3 has one of the sweetest 6's i can think of. But, for the sedan, i'd say either sts or cts v series. SUV? Go big pimpin and get an escalade on 24's. J/k, the toureg's are pretty nice, but i'd go porsche or bmw. personally i'd never buy a volvo. I don't even know where a volvo dealership is by me, and i live 30 mins from milwuakee and an hour from chicago.

In ANY forum ever! Now as far as the car goes, well, M45 would be right near the top, but if you could stand "slightly used", I'd look for an Audi S8!

Since your dad is probably looking more for utility than pizzazz, he may want to look at the new Cadillac DHS. It would have the room, enough HP and all the conveniences that make for a large luxurious automobile.

If not a car then go with the Cadillac Escalade. He wouldn't go wrong.

the jeep is like under a 13.5 and the chevy is close to 15, like 14.8 or so...(sound familiar).

I am hoping the SRT-8 jeep will hit a 12.9@104ish. Wishful thinking, maybe, but you never now.

My ultimate "realistic" future garage, will be a SRT-8 Cherokee, and a shelby GT500.

i have not heard numbers that high for the trailblazer, i have read reports of high 13's with an lt awd model, so i would assume that an ls rwd model could rip off mid 13's easily. also the 0-60 times i have seen have also been close for the ss and the srt8, with the ss low 5's and srt8 around 5 flat. not to mention that the sbc is one of the cheapest and easiest motors to mod. sorry to get off topic.
