6.3mp on a digital slr provides a significantly better image than a 10mp pocket digital camera due to the sensor size being much much larger.

I agree... I was merely referring to the fact that the sensor (not matter how good) is only as good as the lens you use. The sigmas are nice lenses and for that particular camera are just fine! But now and days with the sensors growing with each new camera they record everything... which is both good and bad as it means the lens must be capable of producing near perfect clarity. Canons are great camera (as I have a few) and I've noticed the way to better and better images is with the grade of accessories you have.

Also, does the hood come off the lens? I know it isn't bad to keep it on there all the time, but just curious.
I've been wanting to pick up a DSLR for a while now, and I think this would be a mighty fine camera to learn photography and editing on.
