Now however, I want to try the KW Variant 2, But the spring perch needs to be modified to make them fully adjustable. I ran into a KW engineer at the track a few weeks ago and he said that he could probably modify the set-up to use the KW Variant 3, but that would take some serious cut & weld.

The Koni's have been really good on this car and made a huge difference from the OEM.

Well my street tires are in and I need to mount them on the 17 inch Kosei wheels sitting in my garage. My Hoosiers came in today.

The tires alone look like they could eat an Integra Type R or WRX for breakfast.

Thankfully I am not in the same class as the STi. The 227 horsepower version I can take.

the wrx is an easy kill, due to all that driveline drag they get from the AWD system, but I wonder if a WRX can take you from a dead stop?

If they know how to launch the car properly... the answer is no you can't. If they don't, you'll destroy them.

Information for you to gauge your opinions... These are race results from the TTU class at Cal. Speedway during our last NASA event.

Look at the lap times and answer your own questions.

Wow, that is impressive how close the STI is to the Z06, but how heavily modified are those Subes?
What track did this take place on, it must have been a really curvy small course, but I'm not totally wowed by the sti vs z06 comparison. There are so many other variable to take into account.

To put that into perspective the class TTU is basically the fastest time trial class that NASA has. I know the guy who won the TTU championship last year in the AMS Mitsu Evolution at Mid Ohio last year. The car he drove had about 600 whp. So lets just say that the results Derek posted are no where near representative of what stock cars can do. Below is a picture of a proper TTU Evo.

So they are running highly modified Subes and EVO's against a near stock Z06 with a N/A engine, right?
I'm not that impressed anymore.

NASA runs their classing on a points basis. So each modification is given a point amount and each car is allowed a certain amount of points before it gets bumped to the next highest class. So yes the Subaru and Evos are allowed many more mods than a Z06 would be.

Extremely modified... Most in the TTU class are fully race prepped and putting 500+ HP to the wheels.

I got the trailer hitch made up and installed last weekend along with the exhaust to work with it. Everything is set for this weekend's event. Wish me luck. Here is a picture of what the hitch looks like.

So today was the first official event for the Crossfire and let me just say this car is an absolute blast on sticky race tires. I won the local Pro class and took fastest time Pax overall for the event. I have attached a link to the results and I will post a link to the video of my 2nd fastest run of the day later.

Great results. You have verified that the car can be competitive in DS competition with the right setup and driving. Did you have any tire clearance problems?

I am having no tire clearance problems at all. The rear 295s still have about an inch clearance on the inside of the wheel well. The front 245/35/18 Hoosiers will clear without a spacer but I am running either a 3mm or a 5mm spacer to ensure no rubbing when the tire deforms under load. I will be getting the front Konis installed this weekend hopefully. I am still awaiting my AMG front sway bar with delrin bushings to arrive. If the car continues to prove competitive at a higher level then I will eventually order a custom set of rear wheels to drop 8-10 lbs of rotating mass per wheel. I also want to add that I installed a stud kit to get rid of the royal pain that is known as lug bolts. This makes the tire swapping so much easier.

I just got home from a regional event today. The course was just over 40 seconds for the fastest guys. My first event with the Konis at all four corners and a AMG/SRT front bar with delrin bushings. The car handled beautifully, though I can't say that about my driving. My raw times were easily fast enough to win the class but all of my five runs were marred with cones. I ended up 3rd out of 5 about 1.1 second out of the lead and that includes the 2 second penalty I had for hitting a cone on my run. All in all I am thrilled with the car and just need to get used to a car that is much wider than the Miata. I kept hitting cones with the rear tires. The course heavily favored a car like the Mini Cooper or a modified Miata/Civic. Very slalom intensive and tight gates. Just figured I would update everyone on how the car is working out. It is proving to be plenty capable. The real test will be in June when I finally make it out to a National event in Washington DC.

Sounds like you're getting it dialed-in... Your racing weekend sounds like it went about like mine... No top slot, but lots of fun... Heck, I got beat by the track chaplain in his race prepped Porsche 914 / 6 He almost had a full second margin on me after 10 laps. in every race on Saturday and Sunday...
