Future F1 site revealed

 

It's good to see F1 coming back to the states!

 

Now that's racing.

 

That is good and bad. The bad part is that I cannot enter my SRT6. The engine is too big @ 3.2 liter.. The maximum is 2.4 liter. Cheers, Gary

 

I hope it happens Hal! It first has to get through the bureaucracy of Austin politics and permits. And lord help us if they require it to be LEED certified.

 

Also among many other rules it has to have eight cylinders and be normally aspirated.

 

You guys need to think outside of the box. They'll have to do something with that track to produce revenue in the off season. Just like the NASCAR Texas Motor Speedway does.

 

I'm very excited to see that purpose built F1 track being built. Can't wait to see it for real (uh yah, you bet i'm going to that race). I had the chance to walk around the F1 track at Indy a few years back, and it didn't do much for me (except the image of them driving anti clockwise down the front straight). From the drawings I've seen there's some elevation changes to the circuit which I'm looking forward to seeing, too many flat tracks in the series at this point in my opinion. Please post links or spy pics if you have them.

Oh btw, do you have a good idea how far the track is from downtown Austin. I've never been there but have always heard good things about it. I've gone to f1 in Montreal for years and it's fantastic being right in the city, hopefully the transportation to and from will be reasonable (crossing fingers).

The site is about a 30 minute drive from downtown Austin (in normal traffic).




The scheduled opening is 2012. This would be a great location for a future CAA event. Austin is in heart of Texas' hill country and offers some amazing drives.

Who wouldn't want to drive their Crossfire around this F1 track?

 

Thats fantastic. So close to the airport, love this. Now i gotta figure out travel plans, Fly or Drive thats a long way from Maryland :P
