Lightbulb SRT Brakes on NA

I autocross regularly in the summer, and put the SRT brakes on my NA over the winter. I have been holding off on posting anything until I got some results, but now I've got 3 races in and the SRT brakes made a HUGE difference. The NA is lighter than the SRT, and while the rear brakes aren't that much different, the fronts are much bigger (rotors, pads, dual calipers). There is an increase in rotational mass, but it is worth it. I can driver deeper into the corners, then get a solid plant before rotation. I got the brakes from MrMoPar, and between him and other SRT owners who have upgraded their brakes, others should be available. It was a fairly easy retrofit, with preparation being the most important step.

I also upgraded to SRT springs and shocks, so the car has less body roll around corners, but the brakes made the biggest difference.

I also added the NeedsWings CAI, 74mm TB (with the Waldig shaping / polish) and a Eurocharged tune over the winter, so that helps as well.

In the three clubs I race in, with mostly regulars in a variety of cars and classes, I was finishing at or near the top of my class, and about in the top third of all cars over the past two years. With all the upgrades this year, I finished first in my class in all three clubs (and in two clubs I moved up a class), and finished third once, and fourth twice overall. One of the clubs is a Corvette club, and that is the group I finished third in. THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN BEATING A VETTE!!!!!!!!

Happy Racing.
Mike

Glad to hear you're enjoying the power and braking upgrades, and showing everyone that the Xfire is definitely a contender. I hear you on beating the Vettes'. I've past up a couple in my AutoX club, but still have a few more that are tough to catch. I know for sure that I need a BBK upgrade to help get that done, just lacking the doe rae me right now. Well done on your improvement.

Kicking more butt is the name of the game and it sounds like your getting your share. Tell us how your competition's view of your Crossfire has changed since you began. I love those stories.

If you want to take the next step up in control you need stiffer front springs. The K&W fronts are 640 lbs.. Rears are more or less the same as the SRT springs. The stiff fronts make a huge difference in roll and especially nose dive under braking. You may be able to find a heavy V-8 spring that will work. Next is the Wavetrac I'm afraid to say.

Talking Re: SRT Brakes on NA

I took the car to get it Dyno'd after the NeedsWings, 74mm TB and Eurocharged Tune, but like others, the Crossfire ECU didn't like the DynoJet, so I don't know what I'm running for in terms of HP, but it's more than before. The added HP is nice out of the hole, but for autocross, it's all about good car control, and upgrading the suspension to keep the tires happy.

Best quotes so far:
"He's lying, its an SRT" (Vette owner)
"So how much are those things?" (Ricer)
"I never thought they were all that good" (Ricer)

and my favorite:

"Dude, you beat me! Seriously...you...beat...ME?????" (Mustang owner)

So where are you racing? I ask because I've been collecting parts. I have near everything you have but not installed yet. I'm younger than you but disabled (Vietnam Vet). As soon as I get my last few bits I'm gonna get everything installed at once. Then I'm gonna be ready to hit it.

I race mostly at KilKare raceway, and sometimes at the old DHL hub at Wilmington Airport. Both are a few hours from Athens, but it is a really great crowd. We have people come here from both Cincinnati and Columbus because of the people. The events are usually scheduled on MyAutoEvents.com, so if you get a free weekend, come on up.

Here is my latest run a few weekends ago.

I don't remember where Kilkare is. I was only there one time and that was years ago. DHL I know. My family used to own the land across the street, where WalMart is now.

If you're referring to me, you might try re-sending them... I didn't see anything from you
