Drag radial experts poll
Drag radial experts poll
Ok experts and not so expert persons of a Crossfire nature. Here's my poll, for the fun of it. I ordered wheels and drag radials (MT radials, not bias ply wrinkle tires) and want to know what what you think my new times will be at the track. This is a longish term poll as I won't make it to the track again until, oh, January most likely. Pertinent data. Best time so far, 12.750. Best trap speed, 114.48. Dashdaq data, 39% maximum throttle in first gear (spinning at 39%) and less than 100% in second. Best 60'. 2.xx (latest track data is still pending study) 1/2 mile time 139.xx. Mustang dyno "Atari mode" you know, dyno 1/4 mile, 11.9. What time and trap will I achieve when I get my 16" rims and MT drag radials? I'm tired of damaging the reputation of Crossfire owners over the world with my substandard times in the 1/4 mile. 1/2 mile and road course I'm locally know as the immortal. (Honda guy let me in on the code name for my SRT-6) Feel free to guess 12.699. This will be uncharted territory for me so any guess could win the crown. I'm shooting for 11.anything but being real green at drag racing and of an older persuasion who knows. Have at it.

Re: Drag radial experts poll
Do you think I'll trap faster with drag radials? The 12.7 at 112.9 was before the manifolds and the car hooked pretty good in 2nd gear. The 114's were half throttle in first and less than full in most of second.
For the analysts, heres one of my recent runs. (sob)
.472 reaction time
2.435 - 60'
6.088 - 330'
8.881 - 1/8 @ 87.40
11.242 - 1000'
13.226 @ 114.58

Re: Drag radial experts poll
Les. I don't have any times in the coupe yet...still putting the finishing touches on it. The best times in the roadster with summer tires, not drag radials was a 12.2 @114. It was pushing a 12 flat last time at Muncie, but the printer didn't print, so no official times... Your temps will slow you a bit, but 12-12.2 is certainly something you should be at....that 11 thing is harder than most people think, but we are working on it.
OH, 'bout forgot. I ran an old set of Hoosiers at Muncie one evening, and ran .02 slower, but was afraid of breaking the rear that night. Track prep was real sticky. I now have the wavetrac in both cars, so I launch a lot harder now. So, I would think the times would improve...we shall see...

Re: Drag radial experts poll
Wow, with the 100 octane tune you should easily be in the 11's. I've been doing it with the 93 octane tune using 100 octane fuel with just my code-3 pulley and home made cold air intake. I use the 16 inch light weight wheels with the MT biased drag tires. I myself can't wait for the cooler air again. Can't wait to see your results.
Re: Drag radial experts poll
OH, I am a Hoosier fan as well for obvious reasons....lol
Re: Drag radial experts poll
I'm still waiting on the drag radials to arrive, should be any day now. I'm attending a "Rental" on the 15'th of december where I hope to finally put the power down and see where I'm at. My 1/2 mile times with a 20 mph headwind say I should run 12 flat or better. I've got to admit, those 12 seconds are not easy. A driver mod may be needed.

One wheel and tire arrived today. Test fit tomorrow.

Re: Drag radial experts poll
I just got back home from a drag rental. Conditions were good, I'll look up the specifics later but the temperature was around 82º with no wind. I started the radials at 18 psi and did a burn out. Spun slightly. Then I did some hot laps and skipped the water, no burn outs, and ran a couple of 12.2's. Then I lowered the pressure to 17psi. That was scary! The car was all over the place when I let off the gas. It seems the sweet spot is between 18 and 20 psi. My best slip of the night, which I'll post tomorrow, was:
60' 1.872
330' 5.174
1/8 7.884 @ 91.31
1/4 12.142 @ 115.88
This wasn't my fastest trap but the 60' was by far the best of the night. I need some advice on getting the 60' better. Best trap speed of the night was 116.80 with the cutouts open. My best time of the night was with them closed. I can see 11's happening if I can rip off a decent 60'. Needless to say, I made an impression tonight. I'm pleased with my cars performance.

Re: Drag radial experts poll
That's a very good trap speed, especially in the heat. I believe it's fairly normal for the car to feel a litte loose with large sidewalls and low pressure, at least mine does. The sweet spot for my Hooser's is around 17 or 18 psi.
Anyway, great numbers and I think you're a good launch away from 11's.
