Default Improved Drag Times

Alright guys,

I was finally able to get back to the track and improved on my best time, which use to be 12.42. Mods I have added since I went to the track last time: new tires Michelin Super Sport 285/35, new wheels Forgestar, and modified intake upgrade from Needwings. My best time is as follows:
60’ – 1.854
1/8 – 7.869
¼ - 12.116 @ 116.12

While I am glad to have improved on my time, I just missed the 11 sec mark. I performed multiple runs from 12.1 to 12.3 so the runs were pretty consistent. Track conditions were pretty good with a temperature of 55 degrees, 30% humidity (which is awesome for Louisiana) and a 10 to 15 mph head wind.

There were a couple of supercharged 5.0 mustangs running mid 9’s with slicks – quite impressive to see.

Next, I will add drag radials and go back to the track. Hopefully that will get me a couple of tenths!

Les, I am watching what you are doing as well so I will be adding a fan to keep her cool! I already showed up at the track with just less than half a tank of gas.

You are right there as so many others have been. I went backwards adding the drag radials in. Hopefully you will go the other way. That was with the roadster. We have changed a few things since then with the roadster. Just haven't been back for new times. But, you are now in a club of low 12 second cars that are just at that hump you need to get over.
I am still holding the coupe back until everything is finished. It is a track thing. The guys at the track protested the roadster so I can only test and tune with it. Once I know the coupe is ready, I will show up with it and have some pay back....lol.

Congratulations! On street tires? And a head wind? Dang! The mph is enough for 11's so now it's in the details. How do you like the Forgestars?

I am jealous how a bunch of you can get great 60' times, on street tires none the less...
Your 12.116 ¼ mile is better than I have ever done on street tires.
Can't wait to see what you do with some sticky rubber!

Beaner, you are making me feel a little guilty as that was my best time for the day. Here are acouple of others, not sure if they will make you feel better or not. Also, I lowered the pressure in the tires to 22 lbs.

3rd pass out of a set of 3.
60’ – 1.883
1/8 – 7.891
¼ - 12.168 @ 115.63

1st pass out of a set of 3.
60’ – 1.932
1/8 – 7.899
¼ - 12.161 @ 115.90

Les, I love the Forgestars as they give the car a more aggressive look. I really had a hard time trying to determine if I wanted polished or silver painted but finally decided on the silver which came out nice and match up on the car well. I really think either choice would have been great. I went with almost the exact setup you have – 18’s all around – considered 19’s in the rear but was concerned about such a thin tire in the rear with the width I wanted and how it would impact overall diameter – I want fast more than overall looks so the 18’s with 285/35 tires was a good balance.

I still need to lower the car about an inch all the way around to close the fender gap. Just been so busy with work I have not had a chance to get around to it. Once I do find the time, I will need some help from the forum to make the rear camber arms, drop/cut the springs, etc. I cannot wait to see it an inch lower…it should look awesome!

Hey Dementors those are some great times on street tires. I think you made a good decision on the 18" rear wheels as many here have told me my 20" rear wheels are hurting my times. I have a set of 18" all around for road course track days that I had on the car for about an hour just checking the set up out and the car felt noticably quicker. The 18"s should also help with the clearence when you drop her.

Thanks everyone for the props on the times. Bigkid, I like the looks of the 19s and 20s and if I remember correctly you had the 20s at the last dragon, right?...which looked great...however, I did not see them hurting anything as I could barely keep up with you and at times could not. Lol. What would you do with the 18s?

That's what I was thinking. I don't know much about drag racing but from what I've seen here and there on the forum 116 seems booking it for 12's.

Good luck, I'll be keeping my eyes opened for 11's from you soon!

I have seen 12 second cars with higher top speeds. 60' times are good. That is where the time is. I only run street tires. Summer compound tires. I may get around to replacing my 17" Hoosiers this year, but I will bracket race in a street tire class, so I really don't need the drag radials. That 11 second run isn't a easy as you think. But I think you are right there. Your time will come.
