Couple cars that want to race
Ok I showed the XFire off to a couple of buddies and now they want to race. I know the 350z's will take me but what about a Honda Prelude, or a 2004 VW Jetta? Do I have a chance with these cars, I'm pretty sure I can take the Jetta. Any suggestions?
Be safe... Accelerate, Anticipate, but don't brake too late. If all these things get executed perfectly. Then you the Victor, I shall Congratulate.
Slim all you have to do is think passed your greatest competitor. What I mean is if you can anticipate, your components anticipations, then you should be at least one step ahead. And if you follow racing in any form, one step ahead will mean the difference between being the first one passed the checkered flag and winning, or just being the first one to loose. ..I'll take the step.
If it is drag race, the only thing that you can have over the other driver, is your reaction time. If you have a 6 speed, then how you shift will be a factor. Also how your competition shifts could also work in your favor.

nah, just been brought up with all dodge cars. my first vehicle was an international scout 2, but after that I bought my moms 91' dodge spirit. then I bought a 98' dakota with the 5.2L V8 (I miss that truck), a 2002 dodge stratus (darn wife was afraid of the dakota having never driven before). and then it was the 04' sebring, and I bought the Jeep as a toy for me to take off-roading and now the crossfire for me to play with when the wife's not driving it. lucky girl.
Oh I plan on breaking it in before I race. I'm not sure how many miles I should have on it before I race though, but by the time I feel really comfortable in the car I figure it should be enough. But any suggestions would be nice I know most cars have a 500 mile break in period. I'm almost at 500 miles on the car since it's a daily driver.
Thanks guy for all the info, I'm glad I found a forum site with such helpful people. And Black SRT, I would love to see your car sometime since we live pretty close, we should hang out.
Beat the heck out of the thing. I think I started flooring mine at 200 miles and haven't had problem now with 7k on it. The more you baby it, the slower it will be down the road. :-D
But as far as the races go, 350z > Crossfire = Prelude > Jetta.
Assuming all are stock. If the Jetta just has a chip and is a 1.8t, he will be pushing 210-220 whp depending on the tune and year. So he will win, and the H22 (Prelude) responds to mods quite nicely. Just some food for thought.

Well all the cars are stock, even the 350Z (for now). The prelude is stock and the jetta is an 04' with the 1.8t. I know my 04' sebring did pretty well against the jetta on the highway. LOL I lost but it was never far behind.
Well I have... against 350's and beat the crap out of them. Its funny there were two of them at the same time just being stupid. Mind you, I just got off of a 16 hr. bit*h of a day. It was like 10:00 pm I got on the freeway, and the first of two "Z"'s cut in front of, totally cutting me off. Then the guy had the B***Z to flip me off, and give'm the finger. Oh shoot this clown didn't even...MMMm!!! So I jumped on his as*, kicked on my cockpit lights, so the dude could see me. I flipped him off and Hmmm YOU back to him. From there we ripped down the freeway. (Totally unsafe, but I drove as crazy as this may sound, I drove as safely as I could) any way that Z actually gave me a little run, but eventually was no were to be found.
Then while changing freeways, there is another "Z" moving pretty quickly himself. We both saw each other. I was in front of him from the word go. I just remember stepping on it and not letting off until he gave up. Actually if I remember correctly, he never really had anything for me.
I do remember making it home in what would normally taken about 35 min's. I got home in 12 min's. That to me looking back, was more impressive then the "Z" story. But that's just me.

what year is the prelude? it should come down to driver at first but once you get around 80-90 you should walk away from him. maybe even sooner, the 2000 prelude runs 6.8 and 15.4, as far as a 350, you better hope they don't know how to drive, otherwise all you'll be seeing is his back side. and the jetta, you should walk on. but last time i checked. the prelude and jetta look like crap compared to a crossfire, and for the price of the 350z and the difference in power it has it better be faster. even if the 350 doesn't launch the car, it would probably win... just my opinion. But any crossfire that beats a 350, beat the driver. as far as the highway story. idk, maybe they didn't down shift completely? or maybe they didn't punch it the same time as you? or you were already accelerating from behind them gaining momentum while they were cruising at a set speed?
Well I know the prelude is the from the last year that they made them the car is pretty fast considering that it's only a 4 cyl engine. I'm not to worried about racing the 350Z the kid is a good driver and has raced the car a lot. The Jetta like I said before I know I did pretty good against him on the highway in my sebring (which was the sedan). I will let you guys know down the road when I do end up racing them how I did.
