I've tried the blue discs in my nav system and they definitely do not work. Becker does put out updated US CDs for their nav systems in Porsches and Ferraris so if anybody's got a 2007 or 2008 Ferrari lying around, we could try those discs.

I asked the eBay seller for info about the discs and he said:
"There were no released updates for the Crossfire navigation. I worked for the manufacturer and the nav software I have is an internal release on 4/5/07 which contains 3 CD's."

Hmm...

Here's what I've figured out...

File List from CD1 and what I can tell by examining them:

Code:
Directory of G:\

02/12/2004 08:50 AM 878,592 BDB_XFire_11.DB Firmware
02/25/2004 01:09 PM 2,048 NCFH-XFIRE_USA_0015.1-kN023NA01x03p1.DB Main DB Identifier
10/29/2003 02:29 AM 6,629,376 SDB_XFire_ZF1846.DB Sound DB (Announcer Voices)
02/19/2004 02:43 PM 4,401,152 XFIRE_USA_1.1.15.img Display image?
05/16/2003 11:43 AM 864,256 epi-epd_RB4-USA-total.DB Points of Interest
11/21/2003 07:52 AM 541,767,680 kN023NA01x03p1.DB Main DB
               6 File(s) 554,543,104 bytes
               0 Dir(s) 0 bytes free
I would be interested in what the newest Becker CDs had on them... AND, if they have the same file structure.

If they do, we may be able to transplant the database from the newest becker CDs along with the Points of Interest database and just keep our firmware and sound databases. This of course presumes there were no major changes to the navigation and POI databases.

But, it's worth a shot. Anyone have or knows someone with the updated Becker CDs for North America?

Nice! I was just looking at this last night while searching fruitlessly for an image of any updated NavTeq CD or DVD. It may be possible that the DVD data can be segmented and used to update the CD data as well. All that would likely need to be updated is the Main Db and POI files.

I'm going to attempt to decompile the actualy map data this weekend to see what's in there. I'm hoping they didn't use anything proprietary when putting these together.

Cool Re: NEWLY released Nav CDs??

I know all of us here appreciate the 'technical' skills you are applying so Thank You! It would be very cool to gain some updated CD's although mine work okay for where I"ve gone so far...but up-to-date is certainly better...Please keep us all apprised of progress.

My neighbor recently purchased a dodge with nav cd's included. I'm taking a look at his CD's this weekend as well. I assume the map data and POI data will be updated, and I can convert that into any data needed that would a compatible image with our existing units. I will try and load an image and see if it works out.

This is a fabulous idea. Navteq has a free developer network. Once you join, you can get all kinds of technical data on their database formats and other such stuff. This might help with the reverse-engineering.

The auction for the nav radio with the unreleased updated CDs is over. Was anyone here the winner?

Could you ask your contacts if Chrysler and Becker have considered open-sourcing the firmware and data format? If they're not going to provide updates, they should release the code so we could provide our own.

Could these 2008 disks work? You'll notice it for a HK TrafficPro II which is a Becker very similar to the XF!

Yeah, I think that actually may work. The question is; when is the data on those CDs actually from.

I would think the data is much newer than the version we have. Perhaps we can start a pool and have everyone pitch in to buy these discs. Then hopefully they will work on the spot or we can make our own version using both set of discs. I would be willing to pitch in.

I would pitch in as well, although I just sent an email to the parts department at Harman/Becker explaining the situation. I called them today and, to make it short, I was on hold for a total of about 55 minutes only to be informed that I was in the wrong place. They gave me the correct number, which I called at about 5 mins after 5pm EST, only to be told that they close at 5pm EST.

So very, very angry.

Anyways, so yeah...the Traffic Pro II appears to be the exact same hardware with perhaps a couple firmware tweaks. This is promising, at the very least.

I'll contribute, too. I'll bet there's some kind of key embedded in the data that prevents it from working with our units. I hope I'm wrong.

Looking at the raw data from our disks, I can see some patterns but not enough to decipher the format. It doesn't look anything like Navteq's GDF. Has anybody else gotten any further? I really think our best bet long term is to be able to roll our own updates.

Okay I'll take the plunge. Just ordered the HK CD's. I'm an IT manager and have thought of some ways that we might make this work. If it does, I'll pass the plate

I just sent this message to Chrysler customer service:
I own a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Limited coupe equipped with the navigation system. It is my understanding that Chrysler has no plans to release updates to the 2004-vintage map CDs that came with it. If Chrysler is unwilling to release updates, would they consider releasing the firmware source code, data formats, and development tools under an open source (i.e. GPL) license so owners can provide their own updates? If not, would they consider instituting a community developers program so registered users could get access to these? I love my Crossfire and want the same map updates that owners of other Chrysler models enjoy.
I'll post any replies.
