i was actually talking about the hotel on the island..we can meet at Mcallen at the Civic Center in Mcallen and drive to the island...I want to see those superchargers for those of you with SRT's , so bring em boosted up.....

I will be on South Padre Island personally, i need to know exactly how many of you are coming because I will speak to the hotel manager tommorow and saturday...i need a rough estimate as far as attendance....I will visit several hotels to see which offers a better quote...thank you for your kind participation

We will definately be there (no hotel req'd), but I don't know if we will have the Xfire with us.
I know the owner, and Manager of Tom and Jerry's,(and SPI bar & grill) so if we get enough cars i could maybe get part of the parking lot cordoned off, which would give us a place to have a mini Xfire show, and I'll see if he'll offer us some specials, if anyone is interested ?

While your at it make sure there are some waves also.

 

Let me know also, if you get it arranged as I may also attend. It would be nice to get a few Crossfire together on SPI.

I'm probably coming in on Thursday the 6th. I would assume most people will not be there until later on Friday because of the drive time. We can meet somewhere that evening for dinner/drinks. Maybe at the bar & grill magredvet suggested. Then Saturday we can go for a cruise and lunch. Someone familar with the back roads should work on the drive. What do yall think?

Unfortunately, there are no real back roads on the island. If you have Google Earth, focus on the island on the southern edge (look for Port Isabel, which has the bridge crossing over to the main area). There is one main road, and all the side roads are mainly residential or lead to the hotels. BUT....since the main road has a 30 mph limit which is vigorously enforced, we could 'cruise' without actually 'cruising'.

And consider this to be an idea that oozed out of an overheated brain (had the idea that doing yardwork in this heat was a good idea): you CAN drive on the beach. The areas close to field 6 tends to be packed with weekenders and nationals who drive their non-4wd vehicles on the sand, and have compacted a sort of road down...would be a great photo op...providing someone does come with an extra 4wd to help anyone out...just a thought...though the parking lots on the bay side tend to stay empty and have lovely views of the sunset.

I have a meeting and a site visit out on the island this upcoming week. If I can finagle getting away from my colleagues for a while, I can try to take some pictures of the island and the roadways.

 

I know it's only one main road. I was thinking of a cruise off of the Island. Maybe to McAllen or wherever we could actually open up our cars then have lunch. If no such a place then that's ok. I love the beach but don't think I want to drive my car in the sand. Maybe some photos on the North end of the Island by the sand dunes if they are still there. It's been a few years since I have been down so let us know what's best. Some pics would be cool if you have time.
