If it is planned to meet at the Civic/Convension Center in McAllen below is a suggested driving route to the Island. This route travels along the border via Hwy 281 to Brownsville, then Hwy 48 to the Island. It is off the main roads, but not a bad drive. Also does anyone want to visit Mexico while in the Valley? If so the best place is Progreso. Like all border town it mostly depends on American dollar and could be considered a "tourist trap" but if anyone wants the Mexican experience it is probably the best and safest. There is lots of reasonably priced parking on the American side and a short walk to the Progreso.( My advise is to park in USA and walk across.) You would need a passport to get back across the river into the US.

We'll be heading down on Friday morning, having secured the loan of a trailer, so we will have the Xfire. I think the Friday meet idea is probably the best for us, sometime late Friday afternoon would be good, and tom and Jerry's is easy to find. I know of a small bikers bar out in Bayview, if anyone is interested in going there Saturday (any of you locals know where I'm talking about), and it involves some backroads, however I am totally open to discussion, and Friday would seem like a good time to decide, over a few beers and dinner

 

Did we decide on what hotel to stay at? I'm going to start a list to get an idea of people going and who needs a hotel.

if anyone needs anything in advance made in the area or you have any ideas, please let me know..i visit the island every four days....I like the idea of visiting mexico..we can travel to brownsville, mcallen, and harlingen while we are here...great places to go

We will not make the GTG. My wifes family is celebrating an aunts 90th birthday with a party and family reunion. It has now been confirmed for the 8th and it is in Kansas, so we will be going North and not South. Sorry we will not be able to meet some new friends, but maybe next time. Hope all have a good time and a good safe ride.
