Cool CTC April GTG Bluebonnet

Central Texas Crossfires
Bluebonnets
GTG

Ah, the serendipity of bluebonnets

The Trail of Texas Bluebonnets which I believe in our neck of the woods would be around late March to early April. Could this be the beginning of a discussion at the March GTG for the April GTG.

The article in Texas Highways shows routes near Amarillo (Llano Estacado), Beaumont (Upper Coast), Brackettville (Nueces River Valley) and Lampasas (Heart of the Hill Country). Two of these areas might be within striking distance of us:

Nueces River Valley and Garner State Park
* Route ~180 miles / ~4 hours = Concan -> Garner State Park via -> #83 to Leakey -> #337 to Camp Wood -> 334 to Brackettville & Fort Clark Springs -> #674 to Rocksprings -> to #55 to Camp Wood
* Area Information: Camp Wood, Brackettville, , Fort Clark Springs (830-563-2494) and Rocksprings (830-683-3181)

Heart of the Hill Country and Inks Lake State Park
* Route ~125 miles / ~2 1/2 hours = Burnet -> #29 to LLano (Coopers BBQ?) -> #16 to San Saba -> #580 to Bend -> #580 to Lampasas -> #281 to Burnet.
* Area Information: Burnet (512-756-4297), Llano (325-247-5354), San Saba (325-372-5144) and Lampasas (512-556-5172).

Whadda ya think?

Sorry the GTG didn't pan out, but the winds out here were horrible and it was uncomfortably cold. Eileen and I went o the Inn and met Ron Hatchett and wife there (hadn't seen the cancel) my fault for not PMing everyone. Had a nice lunch and chat.
Request your thoughts on Bill's sugestion for next week, or follow Veloce's suggestion for Bluebonnet run in April. If doing Bluebonnets, do a joint meet with Houston, or a more local run?
The cancelled run today can be rescheduled anytime, but Flowers once a year .
Thoughts??

I actually like the idea of joining up with Houston in someplace like LeGrange.

Who came up with that idea?

He said they would talk it over at their GTG tomorrow. They mentioned a bluebonnet cruise on the other thread so I proposed doing this route.

Another beautiful bluebonnet drive leads west from Brenham on U.S. Hwy 290 to Giddings (35 miles), south on U.S. Hwy 77 to LaGrange (20 miles), then north on TX 159 and 237, which will get you back to U.S. 290 in the city of Burton, about 15 miles west of Brenham. Brenham lies midway between Austin and Houston.

Here's a thought. Would it be cool to meet with the CTC group in La Grange? Wouldn't it be about an 80 mile drive from Houston, Austin, and San Antonio?
Just thinking out loud (well, not really out loud).
Not sure if Dallas is part of that group or not.

Here was the last CTC run to that area, Feb 2009 and we ate at Klump's:

Re: CTC February GTG - 01-27-2009 ,

We took 21 to Bastrop and 290 east to Carmine to meet up with Jerad and the Houston cars.

Ok, let's start here. I have been trying to figure out how to best work this, and if we eat at Klump's, http://www.klumpscafe.com/, then it looks like meeting in Carmine on Hwy 290 at the 458 intersection might work best. Then we can country road it to Round Top and to La Grange. Most of those roads between Bastrop and Round Top are not real friendly, and they have torn some of them up to redo (not sure if they are done yet). If 'yall came 21 to Bastrop then 290 to Carmine, it would be mostly country. Might actually have time to go pre-drive some roads this weekend.

Here is my current plan:
1) Meet in Carmine at Hwy 290 & 458 (Centennial St.).
2) Spur 458 to 237
3) Stop at Klump's in Round Top for lunch
4) Continue on 237 to La Grange
5) Hang out at River

Optional: Have any of you driven the bluff on Hwy 77 in La Grange? It's not real long, but it is fun and right by the river. Kinda have to circle around town to get to it and then come back to park or go through the bluff, u-turn, go back thru and then go park. This whole part is dependent on time and want to participate. I think it would be an enjoyable time and plenty to fill a Sunday GTG, but others may just want to eat and run. The bridge over the Colorado in La Grange is awesome. I am going to see if any good pics can be had.

Please feel free to express any opinions, as I am just making this up as I go, and there are TONS of other options on this route.

The river and bluff part sounds cool. I'm really into seeing that kind of stuff. Parking the cars by the water and taking some photo's would be awesome. I found Carmine. It doesn't look like there's much there but an antiques store. Is there someplace near there that serves a beverage?

What about this place?? Found it on google. I haven't been down here long enough to know everything but if it's the same chain as the one in Superior Wi, the food was great.

Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant- more info »

How the H*LL does google do that??? They have a 360 degree photo out front of the restaurant.
It definately looks like a small town restaurant attached to a Valero.
There's a bunch of cars in the lot which is a good sign, but not sure they're all Valero customers.
Anyone know this place?
