Houston/Central/Dallas GTG Something Different
Hey everyone,
How about doing something different. There is a 4 hr old fashion steam train ride that departs out of Palestine TX. How about we all drive from our 3 different points, meet up in Palestine and take a train ride. Maybe we can see some fall foliage.
If interested, I will do some checking and will pick a date.
Let me know .

Where have you been, missed you!
I would like the Train ride, as long as it brings me back to the car at the end. I would like to know if they have security in the parking lot to keep watch on the cars while we are gone.

The route seems nice, so I suggest that we make a train with our Crossfires and take the train route to see the scenery. That way we can stop along the way for pictures, eat at a restaurant or bring our own box lunches and picnic.
we will join ya"ll if we can , will be great to see all. Dan and Sonia
As long as the date does not clash with anything else, we would be interested.

Not too sure were Shertz is but it looks pretty central to all three groups. Even more central would be Texas World Speedway near College Station and we could spend the day on the road course!
TWS in College Station would be fine, but how much does it cost to do the Road Course? Not sure I want to put the XF in harms way. I am pretty easy to go any where.

I think a big GTG between the groups would be great. I probably can't do anything until late winter or spring though.

What do you guys think of Texas World Speedway in College Station? That sounds fun, but I don't want to get the XF bent up. I'm going to try and get new tires in a few days.

I have been there before as a spectator and went for a ride with a very good driver. It was a lot of fun. We would hve to contact them and see what they have going on and the cost.

Looks like 150.oo to drive from 3 to 5 5.oo$ helmet rentel l Free to all 12 to 12.45 at street speeds like TMS. Lots more info at website
I will wait a bit longer to see additional comments, but so far the sense I am getting is that this would be too long of a day and drive for most. I might still do it as a family deal. If there is no further interest on this then it is back to the drawing board. I was trying to do something different and central to the 3 groups. There is no way to get around the long day/drive.
As for the track, I don't mind taking the drive if someone wants to organize it, but I will probably not particpate driving on the track itself.

There are a few of us in the San Antonio area.. I live in Schertz/Cibolo area.. but commute in to San Antonio on a daily basis..
Just let me know what you need help with and I can try and assist.. either respond here or shoot me a private..
Also the wife and I are always looking for a reason to head back to the BCS area.. We lived in College station for a little over 10 years.. So if you guys are looking to have a meet up out there.. we would be interested.. Some things to take a note of...
a) unless you are college football fans.. you may want to make sure that the Aggies aren't playing in town that weekend.. cause if they are.. hotel space is usually a premium those weekends..
b) There is a winery called Messina Hof winery.. its out in the country a little.. but a very nice place to visit.. they used to have free tours on Saturday mornings including a wine tasting.. their double barrel port tastes just like a chocolate covered cherry..

I also like the College Station idea even if we don't have track time. Seems like a nice area to explore and the wine tour sounds good! This seems like a central location for each group. Or we all meet in San Antonio for a tour of Corky Bell's company (BEGI). I promised him one car. I wonder what would happen we should up as a big group!
