Default Central Fl Aug GTG

Ok everyone, lets see what we can do to get a really nice gathering of members with there rides. I'll like to try to plan something for either the weekend of 8.5 or 8.19. The weekend of 8.19 would be my first choice because I'd like my wife to go with me and she's off work those days. I'm all for another Old Town run if anyone would like to do that, or lets have some suggestions about some other options. If we could GTG at some type of car show or event, I think that would be great. Maybe we all just need to meet someplace and have a cook out. We are somewhat limited on this being a family event unless anyone has some kids that would ride well in the trunk. J/K!! I would like to see if we could do something that could involve our other half's.

I'm going to spend some time searching for a place or event that we could try to hook up with.

We seem to have a few members from the SW area, the Tampa area, and Orlando. I don't really want to drive to Miami or that direction at all, but I'd consider most anywhere else.

Isn't there a speedway over around the Lakeland area. I thought that I heard they did some nice racing programs for local drivers. Maybe an event like that?

So who's game???

John

John,

You can count me in if you stay in the Central FL area or further north. I live in the very NE corner but wouldn't mind a short drive south or southwest. I too would prefer the 19th but either would work.

I'm also game for the 8.19 date unless something comes up at work...count me in. Does anyone know how far the GTG is from Tallahassee?

You guys mind if a fellow Roadster tags along, you know, the other half? LOL. I seem to remember you were short a yellow one the last time you got together... and well, fair is fair, right??

Count me in, too... I'll also look around to see if there are any car shows in the area, as we tend to get them around this time of year. I'll keep you guys posted...

Count me in. I would prefer the 8/19 weekend as I am returning from Chicago on 4 Aug.

Don't know if you guys have seen this site or not, but its lists all the car shows in Florida... maybe we can find something and get a group to attend?

Just a thought...

I've been doing a bit of research and I've focused on Saturday, 8.19. If you look at the link: http://www.orlandospeedworld.org/html/schedule.shtml
and scroll down, they have some racing action for that day.

I was trying to pull something up for the track at Lakeland, but I'm not finding anything yet. I'll keep searching. But that would be quite a drive for me.
I'm still looking for something in or around Orlando.

If everyone is ok with this date, lets try to make Aug 19 the GTG. That way we have a month to get something nice planned.

I'm not finding any car shows or such for that day, yet!!!

John

Hey everyone, It's been a few days since I put up my suggestion for a GTG but I haven't heard anything about how everyone feels about going there. I was thinking that we could meet up in mid afternoon, we could all look over each others rides for a bit and then find a place to go have something to eat before the racing starts. If we met up about 3:30 or 4 that should give us plenty of time.

Thoughts???

John

John,

Is this in lieu of Old Town, or what is the plan? Either is fine with me, just making sure what the plan is. I think we sort of splintered off when the WPB gang decided they didn't want to drive to Orlando. This Florida group is tough to get together. I just drove to PA a couple of weeks ago for the All-Chrysler Nationals and had a great time meeting other forum members and seeing the stuff they had done to their rides. Looks as though we may have to drive to WPB to get more than a few together at any one time here.

Hopefully we can get to a point where the major areas of concentrated crossfire owners can host a GTG on a rotational basis and give us all a change of scenery. Just throwing this out as a suggestion and for comments.

Dan,

The Old Town car show is Friday night. We were trying to plan this for Sat afternoon and evening. I guess we could do the Orlando speed world on Sat and then all do a caravan down to West Palm on Sunday. What a run that would be, Kissimmee to Fort Pierce on the turnpike, 55 miles without any on or off ramps. That is one great high speed area for the trip down. I'd rather go south to WP on another weekend and Sat would be a better day than Sunday to go down there.

We could do the Old Town again on Friday instead, just thought this would be something different.

We need some discussion from everyone, what would you like to do?

John

John,

I didn't mean the same weekend for all of it...something like a rotation around the state...maybe once a quarter, or something like that. Just seemed like everyone around WPB wanted to stay there and do their own thing and the only way to get together with them is to go there. Seems to be a large group around Miami as well. The rest of the state seems to be pretty sparse, at least forum wise.

Saturday afternoon/evening sounds good to me as it is a 3-4 hour drive down there for me (I'm in the NE corner by the GA line). If it goes late, then I have to find a hotel and cruise back on Sunday.

More input would be good...just tossing out ideas.

Dan

I apologize for seeming like a "stick in the mud" about GTG's in central FL. But I work a tough schedule, so time and distance are enemies. And generally, I'm never available on Saturdays.

I like the fact that we're being referred to as the "WPB group" when I believe I'm the only one in WPB that's commented here. And there's a chance of a couple of us meeting at Moroso.

But I can easily understand how someone in Miami or Ft Lauderdale may not want to make the long haul all the way up to central FL. So if anything, I can see where WPB or even a tad further north would be a more desirable and less grueling location to get to for those further south than WPB.

I'd like to think that we could even rally up a number of Miamians for a GTG in Palm Beach County.

Default Orlando location for 8/19?

Guess we need to decide where we are going to meet on the 19th??
I have never been to where you met last time so I need a location I can look up on mapquest, or at least some directions to get me there from I4.

Thanks and I am excited to meet some of my "other family".

Ditto. I will be coming down I-95 to I-4 so if you can provide directions coming in that way, it would be much appreciated. Do you think we could get Jolene that does the Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge commercials to join us??? She lives in the Orlando area and drives a Crossfire.

I'll be traveling solo...being that I am new to this State I am willing to explore as much of it as possible. I'm a road warrior (when schedule permits) and have racked up the mileage to prove it. I look forward to meeting everyone at the GTG.

the drive from tally to o town should take you between 3 and 3.5 hrs if you avg about 80-85 mph...nice drive too...be careful on i10 the cops are mad crazy thru madison and live oak. also be careful just south of gainesville to ocala, then the rest is pretty much clear sailing.

toy and murphy, i would be interested in a gtg on the 19th...i would probably come up early and go to sea world with my girlfriend...so count me in for 2. as for an update on my car...it is getting clay barred and fully detailed at the highest end car dealer in the southwest fl area...they just sold the $425,000 porsche to a guy in brazil...lots of high end cars there. they were flat out impressed with my car too...the tech fresh from germany and has agreed to service my car like it was his own. he is very familiar with the slk and all it's intricacies. i get it back fri and i can't wait to get it back and drive a car that looks as hot as it drives.
