Default Stainless Roll Bars (Sport Bars)

I just finished installing mirror finished stainless steel roll bars in my SRT-6 Coupe made for 98-04 SLK230 Roadster(R170). Can't tell them from crome and much bigger diameter and heavier than the factory roadster roll bar. No taps that show! I had ordered 4 factory roadster gromets and they were so tiny I took them back to the dealer. The roll bars came with a stainless plate and cheap looking gromets. Didn't use either. Don't use the stainless plate that comes with the bars for a template pattern. (It's not accurate!) I't took me three cardboard patterns before getting my pattern perfect. Just have to use a 2 9/16 hole saw to drill 4 holes thru the removed plastic cover that caps off the wall between our seats and trunk. I don't even need cover up gromets but I came up with a much more stylish tapered gromet that's a perfect pipe diameter fit. If you take the lid off a toilet tank. Look inside and in the middle you will see the one inch overflow tube that has the flush flapper attached to it. This flush assembley has a tapered neopreme seal thats (inside) the tank that you can hardly see because of the flush flapper seat. You can buy these neopreme seals seperate at plumbing supply for $1.50 each. Not to be confused with a thick ugly spunge rubber spud gasket that goes (outside) the tank between the tank and bowl. No metal cutting anywhere whats so ever or any bending for mounting the bars. Wiggle them in from behind the seat only. They will hit the head liner if you try installing from the trunk. The 4 bolt mounting holes are already factory drilled into our coupes on each side and there is a bottom stop for them to rest on. Had to buy eight washers and eight bolts #8 metric one inch long. Ten pounds free shipping weight. I've seen the same part number on E-Bay for $249.00. Bought mine on E-Bay thru Autogrimming.com for $149.00 SKU number> RB-SLK Squirrel Crusher

I can attest that this job is a 100 percent struggle. We worked at it for awhile and struggled. We ended up having to do the cut and weld method with a tube inside a tube. There is a how to on here somewhere as far as making copies of your template and sending them to us YOU WOULD BE A HERO lol

Hello..You must have been installing the factory Crossfire OEM Roadster 6 tab bars. The ones I installed are the 4 tab MB Roadster bars. If anyone orders the part number RB-SLK from Autogrimming, I can make a light roll up paper pattern copy from my thick cardboard pattern to mail out. Don't know if this pattern will work with a different brand bar? There's some plastic interior trim pieces that are a little tricky that needs to be removed to get to the roll bar bolt area. You don't need to take the carpet out. I spent a day taking the bars in and out several times and making patterns. I now think I could do the job in 2 hours. Squirrel Crusher

I have been wanting a rollbar since I bought this car. I'm ordering one tonight. For those who aren't fond of the polish. Remember, they are stainless steel. You can media blast them, Or brush finish them. Not me though. I like them just the way they are.

What can I say. What a great forum. An amazing amount of supports and ideas. Thanks to Squirrel crusher and Snakewolf both for the help. This is something they shoulda done on the X-fire to begin with. Makes it look more like a real sports car.

They look really great, if they were colored they would just blend in too much I think.
I see the seals stick up a bit, having used toilet tank seals I expected to see them flush...... sorry I could not resist.

New to the thread with question about coupe roll bars. Are the SLK type the same as the Crossfire Roadster? I have 2007 Roadster Crossfire bars for my 2007 Crossfire coupe. It would be nice if I could put these in easy. Please respond.
