Default Oil light on

Had oil change to synthetic oil.

Oil light came on, nothing would reset to show service.

Checked oil level manually, everything shows right where it should be.

Do you think my oil sensor went out? Seems odd that it happened at the time of oil change.

Dealerships in my area just want me to bring car in and they will figure it out, keeping my car for several days and who knows what $$$

You changed your oil "to" synthetic? Hopefully it already had synthetic.

If the light is on, there is no reset for it and if your level checks good, then the sensor may have gone out - it happens. My light has been on since I've had the car (almost 2 years) and nothing bad has happened. Sometimes it will go out for a while and come back on. Not sure why, but I'm assuming the sensor is bad. Since I'm not seeing any adverse effects from it, I see no reason to spend $100 to have a shop tell me my sensor is bad. I keep an eye on my oil level with the dip stick and make sure I change it when it needs it.

Yes, changed it to synthetic.

This was my "company" car before I bought it personally.

When the company owner purchased the car, he also purchased oil change package from the dealership.
I'm pretty certain that those oil changes were not with synthetic oil. When the oil change package expired, he took the car to Jiffy Lube. I have paperwork showing that at least the one previous oil change at Jiffy Lube was with regular oil.

When I personally took car to Jiffy Lube (still owned by company) they told me that their computer showed changes with synthetic, so that is what I had done at that oil change. That is when oil light came on.

I since have purchased the car from company with this problem and would like to have it corrected for peace of mind.

Also, wondering if the changing back and forth of oil has caused a problem?

When I looked in to replacing mine, I saw the part alone was around $250 (I think) and since the part is located inside the oil pan, I assumed the labor would be 2 or 3 hours @ $70 per hour. Too rich for my peace of mind now that I know nothing is really wrong. Not to mention that by breaking the oil pan seal ~could~ cause a potential leak if not replaced properly. I'd use a professional, but stranger things have happened.

If I remember correctly, that sensor monitors oil level (you can use a dipstick) and oil pressure(??). I guess you could have a pressure problem, but out of all the cars I've owned, I've never had one fail in a way that an oil pressure gauge would have prevented.

All that said, I know what you mean about peace of mind and there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm not too sure we should help you, you asked a question way back, you got a reply and we never heard if it worked. In fact we never heard from you until you had another question.
I'll ask you straight up, did the Simple Green work in your engine bay or not?
No answer = no help.

Nope, Simple Green didn't cut thru. It did remove a layer of dirt.

Had a friend take a look. His thoughts were that this was something put on at factory because it covers all the metal in engine bay, even down to nooks and crannies (he got a better look)

Sorry for not getting back on here sooner.

Summer came and I moved on to the Harley and riding as much as time allowed
