Default spoiler up, no Speedometer, ABS, dash lights

@nd time for my 2005 NA Roadster, 6 spd amnual. 1st time , a new battery fixed everything. Then a week ago, coming off Interstate, spoiler came stuck up, button blinking, no speedometer, etc. battery checks out perfect, so does charging circuit, etc. Suggestions? also have a new Autel Diaglink scanner with both Chrysler and Benz software, but can't seem to tell scanner it is a manual tranny.. What to do? suspect speed sensor .. ?? Thanks ..

"tell scanner?" Is this one of the units you only get so many models of cars to pick from? What if you just connect to the car to read codes?

yes, this model has regular OBDII, and then a free manufacturer, and then $10 for each additional.. I have Chrysler and Benz.. there is a procedure to get a particular year, model, and some options.. But neither Benz (R170/slk), or Chrysler(ZHCrossfire) allows me to state it had a manual tranny ..

OUCH! Could you have a loose ground at the point where some of these modules are?

You own a volt/ohm/ammeter?

Or per a prior post, a bad RCM.

I checked the battery ground to the nearby body.. Loosened and re-tightened. Also took RCM out, undid the plugs and reinserted them.. all looked like new .. No, do not have meter- in fact, I have never understood electricity, and leave all that to supreme beings .. Thanks

Have you had someone resolder the RCM? The ground I was referring to would be the ones under the dash, on the fender where modules get grounded not the battery ground.

PS: if electricity is not your thing then bypassing the pulse module should be avoided too.

Check to see if the traction control relay in the RCM is closed (making contact).
If not relay coil is bad. I can remove and replace the relay for you.

Thanks guys, having a friend exchange the RCM for me to check relay. etc. RCM was replaced by PO 20k miles ago .... car starts, runs fine.. just no speedometer, spoiler up, etc.. manual tranny appears to have a different speed sensing method than an automatic. Is that right?

If RCM turns out to be the culprit, I will send to Tighed1 for complete overhaul ..

IT WAS THE RCM! IT WAS THE RCM! Tighe1 told me to check the Traction Control relay contacts (close them) on the RCM, and Eureka! Spoiler able to lower with button and all but ASB/ESP dash lights not on.. Swapped a friend's new RCM and all was perfect..no dash lights, etc. Put his old RCM (no problems) in my Roadster, and all still perfect. Test drive above 70mph, and spoiler up and down as normal.. SO- sending my old RCM to Tighe1 for complete repair, including replacing 4 relays .. Thanks for all the helping replies ..-Saul

Ok, to confirm, It was the RCM- Traction Control relay would not close the contacts.. manually forced contacts closed and was able to use spoiler button to lower spoiler. Then, a great experience- mailed my RCM to Tighe1 (DJ) on a Monday afternoon, received my RCM back that Saturday afternoon! - All refurbished, including 4 new relays, "Me So Horny" modification, re-soldered, road tested.. Thanks DJ ! .. Installed RCM this morning, all is perfect !! … Love these Crossfires ...

Ma il problema è risolvibile facendo le tre saldature del Mistery no start o devo comprare un RCM nuovo?

But can the problem be solved by making the three welds of the Mistery no start or do I have to buy a new RCM?

I'm not sure if this is the "Mystery No Start" condition or not, but a few days ago my 2005 Limited Coupe with 25,148 miles had this same thing as descriped happen to me. I was stopped at a light, and when the light turned green and I went to proceed, the car was stuck in first gear. I immediately thought I had accidently knocked the shifter to manual first gear, but that was not the case. As I looked for a parking spot to pull into, I noticed all the dash lights were on. I mean every dash light you could think of and the gear indicator was blacked out. I also noticed my spoiler was deployed. I shut the car off and attempted to restart but there was nothing. Thanks to this forum and the great information that I have come to learn about our cars over the past 2 years, I had purchased a brand new RCM and kept it in the trunk. I disconected the battery and replaced the RCM and the car started right up and has had no problems since. I opened the old RCM but there were no signes of bad solder joints, so I ordered another new one from the Mercedes Benz warehouse. It should arrive by next week. I want to thank you - and you know who you are - for all the technical repair posts, it saved me last week. Take care all. Best wishes for the new year!
