by-pass oil filter, works great!

I'm thinking about using one on the Crossfire. They tested this filter and it will filter to one tenth of a micron! pretty amazing stuff considering the filter is Toilet paper.

Yeah I know she raised her prices since I last bought my set up, but you can find them on ebay for like $50 bucks.
Here is a link to another guy that makes a similar system, it's called motorguard: http://www.bypassfilter.com/. I also have one of these on my Suburbans' engine and transmission. I like the motorguard best because it uses ordinary 1,000 ply TP. Instead of having to purchase the Franzt toilet paper filters which are denser but cost about $10 for 4 rolls.
Either way you can't argue with the protection these filters provide.
And when using expensive synthetic oil you don't have to change all the oil. All you do is pull out the used TP filter and add a quart of Mobil1. Sure beats having to spend $50 for an oil change every 4 months. So in a way the initial cost of the bypass filter will pay for itself, and then some...

well I just mounted the motor guard in my crossfire, so far so good, no leaks, the hardest part was making a custom oil tap from the test port.
No more $60 oil changes for me, and you gotta love the 1/10 micron filtration!!!

Well I just pulled the TP roll in the motorguard filter today, I have to say that I am amazed at how much junk and metallic flakes I found on the TP element! And there's only 13,000 miles on the engine, wtf?? I guess it's all from the break in period?
This thing is definitely staying on here now! I'll see how much debris it's still catching in another 3,000 miles, Motorguard says the first 2 filter changes catch most of the junk. to be continued...

Could you provide a DIY for the installation of the motorguard filter? Also, did you have to drill a hole into the oil pan for the tap? I would be apprehensive to do that. Keep us all posted.

I should be getting my digital camera in September, so you'll have to wait for pix.
when installing, I mounted the Motorguard right behind the driver's side headlight, it's really easy to mount there, just had to add a shim the to mounting bracket, so it would sit flush
Then I installed a -3AN fitting directly under the oil fill port in the valve cover, it's easy to do, just remove the valve cover and drill and tap for 1/8" NPT pipe tap. I choose the valve cover as the oil return cause it's the easiest place to put it. looks clean and works great.
The hardest part of the install was making the oil test port tap from under the oil filter housing. It's a bit of a pain to do unless you have a metal lathe.
If you want I can make you one up for $25.
It's basically just a metric bolt (forget what size) where I ream a hole directly down the center and tap the end for 1/8" pipe thread. and then screw in a brass 45 degree fitting and then installed a -3 AN fitting.
Before installing torque down the oil-tap bolt 1st, then screw in the 45* fitting.

I just changed out the TP roll the other day, and there are no more particle showing up on the filter anymore, as compared to when I first installed it. So I'm really happy with the job it's doing.
Hey DynamicS.tried that site no good.is there any other place that is easier for test port.what about another place other than drilling and tapping valve cover.just trying to simplifiy things if possible.anybody else tried this setup.do they work. tired of costly oil dhanges too.
you can drill out your oil cap and thread some 1/8" npt pipe thru, or use a AN fitting on you oil cap for return line.
I think Mc Master carr sells this motor guard filter unit. but you have to machine a delrin insert for the TP center seal.

Has anybody ever asked their friendly neighborhood Chrysler Dealer how this would effect their factory warranty?
I only ask because 40 years ago when I worked at a Buick dealer, some guy came in with some major (oil related) engine problems and he had a toilet paper oil filter.
The service manager opened his hood, took one look at the aftermarket filter, closed the hood and told him it voided his warranty.
