Exclamation Engine Light Code P0450

The dealer has my car and is researching the P0450. They said that they are waiting for an answer from Chrysler as to what tests they need to run to find the problem. The code is apparently for the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor. Has anyone here experienced this already? Any ideas of what I am in for, or any information that I can pass on to my dealer?

PO450 is not listed in the service manual but the generic OBD code reference states 'Evaporative emission control sensor malfunction'. Looking at the evaporative emissions system in the manual it would appear that the combined fuel level/pressure sensor is the only such sensor shown. Since 450 specifically states a 'sensor' malfunction I would check the connections on top of the tank. There are detailed diagnostic tests in the manual for the sensor which may be worth following, but I would hope that the dealer has done this already. If you don't have the manual I would suggest you download it and have a read of the emission systems section before conversing with the dealer. I would also check that the filler cap is sealing correctly (there's a valve in there too which opens at specific vacuum and pressure levels too) as that has been known to throw codes, albeit not PO450.

Thanks for the information Woody!

Update: I called them this morning and they said they had run tests to determine that the sensor is faulty. So, they tried to order the part, but Chrysler has no part listing for this sensor! I was told that they are trying to get it through Mercedes-Benz.

No problem AustinXFIRE. Don't take this a gospel as I have not actually taken this part of the car apart (yet), but according to the service manual the pressure sensor is part of the fuel level sender. If this is the case then I think the part No. is 5127 430AA. See attached.

I hope they get it sorted for you.

Well, I got my XF back yesterday and all is well so far. They did indeed replace the combo Fuel Level Sending Unit/Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor. It took a while to get the problem solved, but I am very happy with the results!

Glad you got a good result. It's also good to see that the actual fault correlated with the OBD code.

And thanks a bunch Woody for the web site link! I may need this site sometime in the future (after my warranty expires).

Where did the exploded view/part number list come from?

No problem Polywave, but I think it was actually HDDP who first posted the Chrysler Parts Direct site as a source of low cost Crossfire parts, I think he has a contact there too. The exploded parts view was from a pdf of parts list for the Crossfire that came up some time ago when I was googling about the net. I'm sure a link has been posted on here before. I'll pop a link on my site in the download section when I get chance. Actually the CPD site has a lot of exploded views and pictures too which is helpful.
