Default I Have A Problem!!!

A couple days ago I bought some aftermarket intakes for my car, took the old air filters and plastic tubes of and installed my new intakes...well, I thought when I put those intakes on it would give me a little more speed, but I found out it is slowing me down. The reason is my buddy has a pretty quick car and I used to smoke him but now its opposite. Has anybody else had this problem when they installed intakes on their crossfires...someone I know said I needed to go get it tuned up since I changed intakes. If someone could help me It would be appreciated!!!

Might be the kind of filter you're using. If it's those black ones I see on eBay, it looks like there is cloth around it.

They are not going to give you any more HP than you already have. They are not true Cold Air Intakes, you are getting more air but it is not cold air. It could be the type of filters you are using.

Could be that your FAM is not adjusting properly with the new increased airflow... I would bet that you are running VERY lean now... This could be fixed by an ECU modification...

Your best bet is to get a dyno done with FAM ratios and see where the mixture is... Then find a company that will flash your ECU to increase the FAM...

This really isn't the best way to judge the performance increase/decrease from a modification...

What does your buddy have and what mods does he have (if any)?

I would think that it should be simple enough to remove the new filters, put the old filters back in, and see if the problem is eliminated...or if something else happened in the process. New filters, good or bad, should not make that much difference.

As said before, a photo of your setup would be great.
At least tell us the make of the setup/ describe it - we're all guessing without knowing any information.

i was going to change the intakes of my xfire but the guy that do all this modification (a friend of mine) told me: if you change the intake you most beware that the air is going to be hot, because the original intake system catches the air before it reach the engine, that's why the air is cold compared to the one of the engine.

That is very true...although the aftermarket intakes for the crossfires are nice looking, most of them are actually doing worse for you than the stock setup.

Yes, most 'cold air intake' set-ups do just the opposite, they get the air in the engine bay which we all know is hotter than the air just outside the engine bay (say from the inner fender area.

The best bet is to get K&N filters for the stock air boxes... or an AMG/SRT air box setup from a salvage yard.

Good luck!
