Four questions:
1. Is it necessary to disconnect the negative battery cable?
2. Should the siren/alarm go off if the battery cable is disconnected?
3. If the siren/alarm should go off - how do you stop that - which fuse?
4. Once all the above has happened, is there a reason why I have no power at all, to anything - is there a 'lock-out' period?

Yes it's necessary to DC the negative battery terminal to prevent potential arc-ing and damage to sensitive electrical / electronic components...

No, your alarm should not go off unless you had the car locked-up and alarm activated when you started working on it...

Make sure the car is unlocked alarm off with your key fob...

There is an anti-theft program and anti-tow program in the car and the module is adjacent to the ECU board ... it's called SKREEM it work in conjunction with the PCM & BCM...

Explain exactly what your car is doing / not doing...

I did disconnect the -ve terminal.
I can't remember if the car was locked.
(How should I lock the car once the battery is disconnected - manually & trunk?)
I have no power at all - no lights - nothing.
Turn the ignition - nothing at all.
Doors will not lock with remote etc. (remote is good).

So, I'm confused... You were going to remove the ECU but your alarm went off when you disconnected the battery (so you never removed the ECU) and re-connected the battery and now it has ZERO power ?

Or you followed the procedure and disconnected the battery and removed the ECU but while you were doing it the alarm activated... Never mind, just call me... I'll send you a PM with my phone #

Thumbs up Re: ECU location and removal

Thanks HDDP!!!
Turns out I had a bad negative terminal contact.
Everything works.
I'll remove the ECU another time - I've had enough drama for today, need to calm my nerves with an adult beverage!!!

Hi,

Im still stuggling - I went out to take off the pcu, and cant figure out how to unattach the wires off the top of it. I put pictures of both in there.

I almost just tried pulling on them or popping them off with a flathead, but thought Id probably break something - Any help greatly appreciated.

Best,

Grant

Start on the left(firewall) side and pull that one up and loose. The next three have locks on them. A little black tab on top behind the grey lever. Push the lock down and cam the lever back towards the firewall and lift the connector free. Repeat for connectors three and four. Number five is another wiggle and pull free connector. Then you can move all the cables out of the way and extract the ECU straight up. It is in firmly and you may need a flat blade screwdriver to lift it to get started.

You should have an ESD safe bag to put it in when you get it out. Like computer boards come in.

Have fun..

Please excuse my ignorance guys. Judging by this thread, dealers can tell when one has modified their box.
I had heard that they couldn't tell as well as they could tell. This leads me to believe it's a little more complicated that a YES/NO answer. I want the power but I want my warranty and extended warranty also.

Would someone be kind enough to enlighten me so I can weigh the decision? THANKS!

If you are nervous about removing the ECU we offer a loaner tool service that allows you to flash your ECU through the data port on the dash using your Laptop.

I have a quick question about the tool you use to flash the car through the OBD port:

I have the Durametric Diagnostics tool for my Porsche Boxster.
Can that same cable be used to flash the software you use?
You would most likely use similar drivers to perform the magic that allows the computer to connect to the OBD port...

BC.

The dealer can not detect a modified ECU, if you remove and send or flash through OBD.

We offer a tool you can keep for 150.00 that will allow you to flash tunes all day long through your OBD port.

I was T-Boned last year finally got my 05 Cricket back up but, my airbag light is on. The passenger side bag deployed. I replaced the door and fender. Door came with air bag still on. I pulled the negative battery cable and even tried the positive cable. But when I start it up, the light goes off then comes back on. Could this need another type of reset?

Yes, and unfortunately only a dealer with the proper equipment can do the reset.

Unhappy Re: ECU location and removal

Could this module cause the cooling fan to run at very high speed? I determined that it's not the fan control module. Also, the AC doesn't blow cold air. Can this and the pcm be related?
The fan doesn't start right up high when cold starting the 1st time. It starts running very high after about 2 minutes from a cold start.
I found a site (Flagship One) that will send me a module matched to my VIN. What's your thoughts?
