Default Sprint Booster or ECU reprogramming

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and would like first to say this might be the most helpful forum I've seen.

A new question I'd like to ask is what's the best use of a few hundred dollars? Sprint Booster or ECU reprogramming? The ECU is more money and means a few days without my car. The SB just makes reaction time better.

Any opinions?

Thanks.

The sprint booster just speeds up the rate that the throttle body butterflies open. No gain in actual power.

The ECU upgrade changes engine parameters, i.e. increased horsepower and torque.

I have a Manual transmission, therefore the sprint booster is of little use to me. People with automatic transmissions say it makes quite a difference in the "lag" or slight delay in throttle tip-in.

The option is up to you!

I have both and would get a Sprint Booster first but that is just me. I had my SB before I sent my ECU to SI and had it remapped and removed the SB when I reinstalled the ECU and found the remap did not correct the throttle lag so Reinstalled the SB. I highly recommend both.

Not completely accurate. The SB does not speed up the opening of the TB. What it does is open the throttle more per prescribed input, e.g. takes throttle input and opens the butterfly at a rate of stock x 1.3. You are now getting more throttle vs. the amount of input making throttle input seem faster.

My vote the ecu... cause the results of the Sprint booster can be achieved by just pressing down on the gas pedal harder...

Yea the ecu is quiet a bit more expensive, but if you want an actual performance gain it is a MUCH better choice than the spring booster...

Point being...if you're looking for more HP or torque, go with the ECU. If you just want a quicker throttle opening, go with the SB.

I have the Sprintbooster (and I like it) - I have the 6 speed tranny, and the Sprintbooster (451 I think), it's a little bit fierce in first gear - ask if there's anyone with the 451A (automatic version) in a 6 speed, it's not as 'acute'.
I would like to get the ECU done, but like you say, it's a few days without wheels.
Get both, I don't think you'll regret either.
$280(ish) vs $600(ish) - your choice!!!

I have the 6-speed manual tranny and the Sprint Booster. I love it and it makes it feel like a different car without the throttle lag. It does take a bit of getting use to though.

I intend on getting an ECU upgrade this winter when my XFire is off the road for bad NY weather.

I can't speak for anyone other than SI but I love the changes they made, not only is my HP gain very noticeable but for what it is worth I get better fuel economy also. You might ask HDDP about others doing ECU remaps I think he has info on several but once again I do like what SI did to mine and my car was only down 3 days.
