Hi guys:

I am looking into adding a V8 on my '05 X-fire convertible base 9k miles... what would you guys think is the best option in money and reliability to do this?... engine brands? performance shops? I am looking to spend around 5k or 6k... thanks.

The easiest way to do this would be a Mercedes engine built between 1998 and 2005 which include the 4.3 5.0 and 5.5 (24 valve engines). I have been researching this and it looks like you would need C43 AMG exhaust manifolds and an electric fan from a CL500. You would also need the engine wiring harness and ECU.

Another option that would be very cool would be a 6.1 Hemi. They use the Mercedes transmissions and have other similarities. The Crossfire is really a Mercedes and not a Chrysler which is why the Mercedes V8 would be the easiest way to go. Check Startech V8 and Brabus SLK V8 both used Mercedes engines for this swap. The Hemi would make the car more legit as a Chrysler. I personally wouldn't consider any other V8's unless you don't care about ever selling the car.

I have found a great deal on a CL500 engine and am hoping to have the engine here by the end of the month.

I hope you can start a thread on that project Tex, would be great to document the entire build!
