Default Phantom Grip LSD, SRT guys this is for you!

I've been watching a thread over on the benz forums, and it seems this company is manufacturing LSD's for SLK32 rear diffs.
I like the price! We'll have to watch and see what the benz enthusiasts think about it.

I don't think it's a true LSD coupling, but more like a cheater LSD that acts similar to a clutch style LSD, that's probably why the price is so low, it's cheaper to manufacture than a standard LSD unit.

Has any crossfire tried this? Does any company offer a gear change as well to be used with the crossfire? Thanks.

As for gear changes - there is bound to be another MB product using the same diff housing and same R&P sizes, but in different ratios.

Too much more gear though, and the traction control light bulb will burn out because you'll be spinning the tires more often than not...not to mention you wont be able to utilize the boost as much.

You can swap out the Base gear ratio for the SRT, I forget but isn't the SRT6 a 3.08 gear? And the limited something like 3.45 or 3.70 ish?
I personally would love to have the freeway geared SRT6 ring and pinion in my 6 spd car, 1st gear is a little too aggressive sometimes.

Phantom Grip LSDs aren't some snake oil, fly by night company. They have been around for a while offering less costly choices for LSD and those of us that don't have a true LSD available. I used one in my old Civic SI and worked very well. I would recommend them. And the price they are offering it for is higher than most of their applications I believe, so don't feel bad that you aren't having to pay the MB premium, cause you are. Try it out, I think you'll like it.

The Phantom Grip is a good product. $500 isn't too bad either. As soon as I get a couple of other "projects" done, I'm going to get one.

Guys, I have a question for you.

Being that the Crossfire Limited ain't exactly a BEAST on the road, I'm wondering whether the Phantom Grip LSD will do anything for a car with about 215 ~ 250 crank horsepower (depending on the tune).

I had always thought that LSD's were for cars that had way too much power for the car's OEM traction to handle.... am I wrong about this? Would a LSD help out 0-60 / quarter mile times of say... a 90 HP Hyundai Accent?

Thanks in advance!

If you're not "one legging it" and doing one wheel burnouts then the factory traction control is doing it's job. A really "tight" posi unit can make a car really oversteer badly on wet roads. I put a Auburn posi-pro unit onto my '97 RWD Cougar and two weeks later backed her into a guardrail on a curving wet entrance ramp when I kicked 'er down trying to accelerate around a curve. $ 1,700 poorer and much wiser ! A Crossfire is a stubby 95 inch wheelbase RWD vehicle without TC/ESP It would want to swap ends on you every time it rained !

It would give you better 1/4 mile times, and the handling on the curvy roads will improve especially if you turn off the TC, have you taken a hard corner at high speed before in a peg legger? If you break traction on that one wheel your totally screwed, and a spin out is imminent and so would be a wreck.
