Default Strange vibration when cold

Hey guys,

Has anyone experienced a vibration while the car is cold? It seemed to start after I had the first gear pop out issue resolved (after 4 visits to the dealer). The vibration seems to go away as soon as the car is fully warmed up but it's very annoying for about the first 10 minutes of driving. it doesn't feel like it is wheel or tire related as the whole cabin shakes and feels more high speed than the rate of travel of the vehicle... It also seems to shake whether or not the clutch is engaged.

I have been to the dealer twice now any they say they can't replicate the issue... This is not an intermittant thing... This is an EVERYDAY thing.

Any ideas? I can really getting fed up with dealing with these dealerships!

The tires develop a flat spot overnight. It's noticeable because the sidewalls aren't very tall and the suspension is on the stiff side. As you drive, you work out the flat spot and the vibration goes away. You may also notice the vibration more at a particular speed range. In my case it's in the neighborhood of 40mph.

I've spoken with some "car people" who've told me that certain tires, and older tires, are more prone to it than others. I don't know the reality of that statement yet as I'm still on my original tires, so maybe someone else can address it.

You'll find other threads on this subject on the forums if you want to check them out.

Common with high performance tires. Just like F1 Cars tires have to be warm for utmost performance. I live in Canada and all my previous rides that had this type tire will have vibration until tire has warmed up, generally takes about 3-5 kilometers.

what is the tach doing durring this time of warm up? is it bouncing around or steady? Is it a loud ticking sound?

Depending on where you live I would change to a different motor oil, can't imagine it being a viscositiy problem with that crappy mobil1 stuff.

Mine does the same thing, just bought used 9K miles.... original Continental tires M/S tires excellent condition. I guess it is common with the low profile large tires. After a few minutes of driving my vibration goes away also.

The Tach seems pretty steady... definately not the engine.

I noticed when I tried to take it out for a drive after being parked for 2 months, the vibration was so severe it was nearly undrivable, then after about 5-10 minutes of driving is subsides...

The problem is when I drive it to the dealer, the issue is gone (of course) because I had to drive it there! Now they are telling me they want to charge me if they don't find anything on the next visit... Well the damn thing has to sit in order to replicate it!

Damn I hate dealing with these dealers...

Have you left it over night so they can drive it when it's cold?

Ya, I have done that and as usual they say there is no issue or they couldn't replicate it... It seems the longer it sits the worst it is as well... But the vibration is definately there with only 1 nights rest period.

This issue only started after the frist gear issue was finally fixed. I have a feeling somthing is too tight in there or somthing.

I have the "Conti "tires and have had absolutely no problems with any type of shaking or vibration when it's cold. The only thing the cold seems to effect is the shifting (6-speed)for a mile or so then everything is fine. The shifter gets really stiff just for a minute or so, then it returns to normal.

What are you running for pressure in your tires? Will adding a couple of pounds make it a little more unlikely to develop a flat spot?

At first I thought you may have a balance problem but that wouldn't go away after a period of time. Have a friend drive along side of you to observe your tires and see if he can spot the tires vibrating a little instead of running true. It's easy to spot a tire that isn't running true when it is traveling down the highway. You can actually see the vibration on conventional tires. May be it won't be that easy on these low profile tires.

You may want to drag your hand across the tread of each tire and see if it feels even in each direction. If it's smooth one way but drags against your hand the other way, you may have an alignment problem. Yet again, your vibration goes away in time when the tires heat up. Keep in mind I'm just guessing, but you never know.

it's the tires. I put nitrogen in, and it made a miniscule difference
