Default Is 87 octane ok ?

Just purchased a 2005 Crossfire with 5,600 miles on it and so far really like it. I was wondering what experience and or recommendations the forum members had on the advisability of using 87 octane gas. How about mid-grade?

absolutely not ... my jeeps 2.5 uses 87 octane but it produces about 100 hp ... the timing in this 3.2 is advanced far beyond what 87 octane can support, if you get lucky the knock sensors will save your engine for some time, but engine damage is guaranteed in the long run ... cracked piston ring lands, dropped valve, cracked head or block ... take your pick but that is what 87 octane run in this car will lead to over time (the components are of excellent construction so destruction should not be instant but catastrophic when it does come)...

For about a $4 difference for a full tank you'll spend a lot more fixing your motor if you use the cheaper grade.

yeah, one day a knock sensor will fail and then you'll have some holes in your pistons. at $8,000 for a new motor I think its cheaper to run premium.
