Default Diesel Mercedes electric posi unit,

I was at borders books store the other day and found a really cool book on the older E class up to 1995. A lot of it is for buying a used Mercedes but it has a lot of secrets to reveal, like special tools for doing an alignment, bleeding brakes, checking clutch thickness without opening up the bellhousing, etc...
Anyways I stumbled across a page describing an optional electric locking diff for the diesel models, as we all know we have peg leggers, and installing a posi unit gives 35% lock up to the other wheel or there abouts. while the diesel electric unit can give a full 100% lock up at anytime. I completely forgot to write down the part number but will go back an purchase the book later. I'll have to ask around the MBZ forums and see what the deal is and what are the dimentions. If the parts are still available from a wrecking yard or the dealership this might be a viable option for a rear end upgrade, that is if, the dimentions are close enough to bolt in there. Might be worth considering for an autoXr, even at $1,500, unless 100% lock up is too much?

Let you know what I find out...

OK here it is, http://cgi.ebay.ie/124-Mercedes-Benz...QQcmdZViewItem

full locking rear, from a w124 Diesle wagon, the gear ratio kinda sucks unless you have the 6spd, it's around 2.70 or something like that. I will have to look for dimentional specs next.

Okay, I'm in automatic trans class for the next 3 weeks so I don't have an All-Data terminal in the A/T trans lab. I can only search stuff on breaks. I'm going to try again tomorrow. I think I found it but had so many windows open at once I lost the part number so this is what I've got so far.

1st things first, All Data has it as an ASD, I originally thought of ASD relay, but it keeps coming up in the differential section as an auto locking differential so maybe Anti-Slip-Differential?? There is the differential, an ASD valve in the right rear wheelwell, and an ASD control unit in the engine compartment on the left side (driver's side) of the block, but no part #'s for replace, just has repair orders.

2nd I was searching under different models on different years so it may be right or wrong, just information you can arm yourself with. If you can give me specifics for I am not familiar with MBs of yesteryear, I will use that to search.

With that said here goes...

Part OEM P/N Price
rear axle differential assy 201350764 $3150.00

this is for the 1991 MB 190E (201 chassis) L6-2599cc 2.6L SOHC

or...

1990 MB 300TE (124 chassis) L6- 2960cc 3.0L SOHC

rear axle differential assy 1243502374 $2190.00

or....

1990 MB 350SDL (126 chassis) L6-3449cc 3.5L DSL SOHC turbo 603

rear axle differential assy 1263502462 $3850.00

I'll keep plugging away........
