Question Fuel additives.

I've read the posts and looked a little bit at what's called "top tier" gasoline. Coming from the auto manufacturers and not the oil companies gives the concept of a better standard of detergent in the fuel a bit of credibility. If there were any companies that provide it close to where I drive, I'd give it a try.

My question though is; Has any one tried and can claim any noticeable gains with any of the numerous fuel additives you see everywhere? I don't mean something you might get from a performance shop, I mean just plain old STP or gum-out or whatever.

I use a fuel injector cleaner in my cars at every oil change. I used to use STP, now I'm using Lucas.
Not sure if it is necessary, but it is cheap peace of mind.

I use a bottle of Techron every 3-4 months just for the heck of it......don't know that it does a great deal, but it sure hasn't hurt anything.

I run my cars on Shell V Racing 100 octane but I have a Powerchip set for that rating.
I also add Nulon Octane boost for race days which gives me around 107 RON a noticable difference

I've used Lubro-Molly additives given to me for free by the MB repair shop that I go to.

I can't really say if it resulted to anything good. My car's been running in good order prior to using to notice any improvements.

Depends on your gas --- here in Phoenix, it SUCKS !!! the premium runs like it's under 90 !!! So with the ecu tune, I run half 100 octane ($6.50 a gallon) half "premium" for the track or other fun times......

Ditto here, but I try to do it at oil change intervals. I've use this product for years, starting back with my 87 Volvo, and never had to do any injector work in 15 years/250,000 miles.

I'm a fan of Techron also. I never have problems with injectors and this is got to be good fuel choice and Techron. Numerous vehicles, all with the same good result.

a little off topic but has anyone run regular gas (87 octane) and a octane booster? at $.20 difference for ~ 15 gal that's $3.00. if the octane booster is $1.00 (not sure what it really cost) it may be cheaper to add it at every fillup.

haha~ good point, I wonder too... what and how does the octane booster do to the fuel exactly? any chemistrist out there?

Btw, I used gumout in my old car, but I don't really feel any difference, just a peace of mind.

For the 2 bucks you'll save do really think it's worth taking a chance on your motor.

Similar question: If we use the winter mode (skipping the 1st gear) all the time, how much gas can we save?

What size bottle of Techron is recommended for the Crossfire? My tank is at less than 1/2 and I would like to add it before i fill it up.
Thanks

I just bought a bottle of Thechron today. Treats up to 20 gallons.
Our tanks are 15.9 so I will add the whole bottle tonight and tomorrow I will run 600 hwy miles to the Tail of the Dragon.
That should clean out any crap in my system although she runs fine anyway.

You should check out the additives section over at the bobtheoilguy forum. Lots of good info there.

I have never used additives in the gas or oil and never had a problem ever. Consumers Report says they're a waste of money. If you want to add them as some kind of cheap insurance and piece of mind it sure won't hurt anything and it might help.

Is Chemistrist a Bushism ?
