Question Won't Shift out of First...

My 04 Automatic won't shift out of first gear. I have to use the "Tool" to get it out of Park and the display to tell what gear it is in, is blacked out. Has anyone have any ideas as to the problem?

Yes, on his, everything died. Mine is just the shifter. It has a check engine light on, but I live 10 miles from the closest Autozone to get it checked. There was a post that mentioned a connector on the transmission that wasn't connected correctly. I emailed them and haven't heard anything as of yet.

Still looking, Allan

Unhappy Re: Won't Shift out of First...

Well, I limped it to the Dealership on Thursday and after 8 hous they determined that the "Shifter Mechanism" in the "Shifter Lever Assembly" was shot. It will take until Monday or Tuesday to get one at an estimate of $825.00.

It is pictured on page 2237 (21-339) of the Service Manual.

I picked up my Crossfire from the dealer today. It runs and shifts like a new one. After $825.38 it had better. It was the shifter and that's what they replaced. If I had known about transferring the 7 year/70,000 mile warranty when I bought it, it might have covered it.

Just glad to have it back!!!

Everything that I have read, says that you have to transfer it within 30 days of buying the car and paying the $150 of course. So I think I am SOL.

Not that I know of. I searched and didn't find any mention of this problem before mine. Lucky me. This is the first problem that I have had and I had mine for a little over a year. Not too bad.
